Newbie question .looking at getting some Gaerne road shoes, will they fit into look sprint pedals or do I need spd-sl pedals for these shoes...

on a related issue how do the look sprints differ from say the shimano ultegras in terms of pedals (i know they are lighter)

All road shoes have the 3 bolt pattern that fits Look/SPD-SL/Time.

Re the difference, not much. Lots of freds and pros use both Look and SPD-SL.

Buy the ones that give you a euro-chubby.

Look and Shimano SPD-SL cleats are roughly the same size and therefore most road shoes are compatible.

Remember, with the pedals you get cleats which you have to attach to the bottom of your shoe. It is the cleats, and not the actual shoes, which clip into the pedals.

    .

What road shoes wouldn't be compatible, unless there are Speedplay only shoes, or other rare variants?

I don't know. I said most to give me some wiggle room in case there were non 3-bolt pattern road shoes.

I'm looking at buying a pair of gaerne road shoes just wondering what is there sizing like. I normally take a size 10.
