    does anyone know of a good+not too expensive distance meter that can be attached to the handle bars of a bike?

    Hi jph100, what your looking for is an odometer, you will get change from €20 for a cateye which will tell you speed, trip & total distance, max speed done etc, the garmin 750(?) will set you back a few hundred quid and will tell you when your wife is ovulating, so you'll find one inbetween to match your needs and budget.....

    they are more commonly know as computers as thebouldwhacker you can spend anything from 20 up to a few hundred euro.

    Any bike shop would have one. The big ones will have a better selection. Check the wiki for a list of places.

    Try the Cateye Velo 8.

    It does average speed is reliable and cheap.
