Facebook to make all accounts public?!

    Hi there,

    I heard on I102-104 fm today that facebook are to make all user accounts public so anyone can see all your photos etc.

    Is this true or am i getting something wrong?

    There was an uproar about this a while back, it would be a privacy issue, and they can't change the privacy policy once you've signed up, the privacy policy says that you're in control of who see's what.

    If they do it, they'll get people leaving in their droves, also kinda defeats the purpose of friends and groups if you can see everything.

    If baffles me how people will upload content they are afraid of other seeing? This is the internet. This is social networking. If you want privacy, DO NOT set up an account of the likes of Bebo, Twitter etc.... Or just delete them and cure your worries.

    Clearly none of you bothered to read the link and the OP who posted it didn't bother to read it either....


    What they are doing - apparently copying twitter - is giving you the option to, when you post something to your profile, have it be visible to people who are not your friends.

    All other stuff on your profile that you set to only be visible by friends is still as "private" as facebook stuff can get though.

    Personally i wouldn't worry, i can see myself using it for the purposes of spamming club nights and my radio show, not much else.

    Also bear in mind that in the space of a few years of facebook being popular most people are a lot more "clued up" about online privacy than they were before; nowadays the vast majority of people have their pages set to private. Also, it's become much harder to browse through strangers pages since the new layout was adopted and since they got rid of network pages (the old central country / city based hubs)
