Just a casual passer by wondering whats the dillio?
From my un-educated tower I'm wondering why do we have both?

we have both because they offer different things

its a bit like rugby union and rugby league, have some of the same foundations

i do not see one better than the other they both complement each other

Ok, so there are different competition rules?

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,261 ✭✭✭Puding

in essence you hit and your outis the fundamental rule that governs both sports

in general ( there are always exceptions to this ) paintball leans more towards the competitive style of play with a speedball game being the ultimate example of this, paintball is also the most social acceptable of the two

airsoft appeal is more towards realism, to strength to me lies in milsim style of play based around objectives, games are enhanced with medic rules and rules to represent things like artillery and air support, an example of this to the extreme is the resent event called berget

Go google both wikipedia articles and figure it out.
Same difference between rugby and football.

    They, are, different.

Paintball is expensive, fast paced, little tactics and all about aim and precision along with speed.

It is also the more expensive of the two.

However the markers used are significantly better then airsoft AEGS in both range and accuracy.

Airsoft is alot more tactical and looks more realistic, there is a bigger team element and it is alot cheaper. Usually you will find yourself playing with the same people week in week out and see alot of teams, unlike paintball where its rare to see the same player twice in a row, and there is not alot of serious teams.

    erm Doc?

Paintball markers have utter crap accuracy and range... Airsoft craps all over them...

Paintball offers a more 'stop start' game, for those that like fast paced as has been said.

Airsoft offers realism to those that want it. I personally prefer it as it hurts less... I can be more accurate, and dont get my gear messy!

Airsoft and paintball are just different really...

I hope some mod locks this before the inevitable 'but x am bettar' war begins....

Dont forget are limit is 328fps unlike the higher limit in England!

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,205 ✭✭✭Firekitten

um... A lot of sites in the UK use 328 too.... and most use 350.... Thats got hardly any range advantage truth be told. (oh noes she disputes the 2fps more = moar range lawz!)

Even at 328... Airsoft is better in range and accuracvy terms... dont forget the pb projective is a liquid core .64 cal projectile with no hopup.... WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.... Wonder why you dont see Paintball ISPC? :P

You're forgetting the most important factors here:
    • Paintballers run arund like they've got a bleeding colostomy bag on
    • Paintballers are annoying and hassle you in shopping centres

Paintball is for the sporty, competititve types. It embodies the spirit of direct competition and attracts all the commercialism that goes with it (not altogether a bad thing). The majority of paintball is the usual "woodsball" gaming for corporate outings and stag parties. The rest is the amateur and professional game where teams face off in arenas.

Airsoft is far more community driven than commercially. It's main focus tends towards the scenario based game either for short 15-30 minute skirmishes or for the longer 3-4 day marathon Military simulations. Suspension of disbelief, personal immersion in a mild form of fantasy and non-competitive physical achievement are all characteristics of airsoft.

In short, airsoft is what paintballers do when they grow up :P

A few weeks ago there was paintballers outside Tescos in Finglas and telling everybody how cheap it was to do paintball and stuff like that.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,205 ✭✭✭Firekitten

did they do part time for the jehova's witnesses? :P

Cheap? the only thing that is 'cheap' about paintball is how they all look XD

    Fecking Rave monkeys....

Yeah, the skirmish paintball truck is in liffey valley a lot of saturdays, and I got hassled in dundrum by a lad there the other day.

It's almost like they're afraid of the fact that I suspect is true: Airsoft is now bigger than Paintball.

What's so hard about keeping up with demand for the new sport?

If you already have a p-ball site, start doing airsofty games.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,984 ✭✭✭NakedDex

Paintball is cheap, as long as you're not doing it in this country.

€10 for 100 rounds (which you'll likely burn through in the space of five minutes) in just about every paintball site in Ireland. That's why I gave up even casually playing paintball. It's ludicrously priced here.
Last week I was in a sports store in Florida and found they were selling boxes of 2000 paintball rounds for $40-$50, depending on the brand. In the words of Telly Savalas, that just ain't cricket.

The last time I went paintballing was the straw that broke the camels back. Sixty of my hard earned eurodollars for three games and a rental (because you're not allowed bring your own gear to this site) plus a further €180 for ammo because half the people I was playing with were morons so I had to do almost all the shooting and somehow my rifle developed a "fault" and was firing on auto (a Neddy-no-no in the paintball world in Ireland I believe). All in that's €250 for less than half a days gaming and I didn't even enjoy it all that much.
That's eight full (and fun) days airsoft gaming, a supply of ammo to last me all eight days and the price of a pint after each day.

Each to their own, but paintball is not mine. The only person allowed to take that much money from me in that short a time is my bartender.

I came across the paintball lads in Tesco Finglas awhile back.

I gave one of them my business card and told him to give me a call and I;d do him a deal.

thats what i said to the fella at Tesco but he still denied it,and i than start comparing prices between the two sports and his reply was ''paintball is still more fun'.
IMO they must be losing money big time to airsoft as there is a big price difference.

-Fact is airsofters are a bunch of IRA wannabees.
-Airsoft is great for cheaters cause a hit cant be called.
-For people who cant take a hit of a paintball.
The reason why airsoft has more people than paintball is that guns can be bought for about 20 euro off of your nearest 'reputable' dealer.
Also good for airsoft is coming firearms bill:pboooyaaaww

    Wow, just wow.
No wonder no one plays paintball anymore if this is the type of people who you'd meet.
