    any one install aluminium rads??

all the energy companies rave about them but do you save much with them or are normal rads just as good?

warm and aluminium tends to great condensation when they hit cold. I know i know, warm and cold creates condensation but we have seen aluminium doors before creating puddles due to the hot air meeting the cold door. House was well sealed so no draft, couldn't figure it. just wondering would this happen with the rads. normal doors do create puddles :D

    cheers

radiators will either be equally warm or warmer than the ambient temperature, they will never be colder.... therefore condensation will not occur on rads... unless of course you put them outside...

i have ignored syd for my one month ban from the renewable energy forum so i can't read what syd says, not that i would anyways

I'll tell you what. Keep trolling and you will be deleted along with the thread.

This was a peaceful forum and if it means doing a bit of weeding to maintain the tranquility then so be it.

Well, I can only say that with an attitude like that you'll find it difficult to get good advice.

i know, but it is not fair on both sides when you have admin and mods gang up on you for something you were not aware off

sorry syd but you didn't read my messages fully the last night why should i read yours?

i apologies if i have offended anyone, including syd and muffler but i am a genuine contributor and all i want is to be left alone by those 2

    please delete this thread now

    Oh FFS.

Dont argue with a mod on thread. If you aren't happy with anything then take it to PM or to the help desk. But hey, I've had enough of this.

Heres another 1 month ban you can take to the community managers that you told me you were doing earlier. Yes they are my bosses so go and make your complaint now.

My job, and syd's, (and not forgetting smashey) is to ensure the smooth running of this forum and that fluidity is being destroyed and peppered with every single post by you. You are not here to help anyone but you are making a great job at disrupting the forum as much as possible.

We just dont need the hassle. Goodbye.

    Guys,
I am going to stay away from the "handbags at dawn" stuff but can someone tell me more about aluminium radiators. I have never heard about them before. ? are they efficient. Am at design stage and going to go as passive as possible through solar gain and outsulation combined by space heating if needed via 2 woodburning stoves with a back up of oil fired rads (mainly for the bedrooms / bathroom towel rails etc).
? are they any good and does anyone know where I could browse online / have a look at them.
    Thanks guys

My understanding of the benefit of alu rads is that they perform (well?) at lower water temps - i.e suitable for heatpump installations for instance. As such, if you're considering feeding from backboilers (higher water temps) you shouldn't need to consider the higher cost of these over and above 'standard' rads.

    Hi all

I have gone with the aluminium radiators, but have only moved in since easter so I can't impart any experience. We have gone for pretty well insulated house (ICF, with HRV), oil fired boiler and multifuel stove with back boiler. We went with the aluminium radiators as they are more efficient. For us this meant (significantly) smaller radiators than would otherwise have been possible, as well as hopefully lower oil bills. They can also be used with lower temperature heat sources, but in this case you would need larger radiators.

I would note that the more commonly available aluminium radiators were not what I would call stylish. PM me if anyone wants details of where we sourced our ones.

Lads thread seems to be a handbags at dawn one but here goes my bit for what its worth.

Aluminum rads are the bees knees,! Higher outputs. Smaller sizes and suffer less corrosion!

What more can be said! Oh yes they look good. Use to buy mine from heating distributors in finglas!

However! If changing normal rads for aluminium rads be very careful! As the outputs are much higher in aluminium the rads will be smaller so will not patch well in a bathroom not tiled behind the rad!

Make sure you order them by rad size in this case which of course will make them look very dear! But trust me they are worth it!

Dont know (bar the fact that oxygen is burned out of heating systems) why all rads are not aluminium. You would never have to replace them! well nearly never!
