Been on the labour for just over a year now and my Jobseekers Benefit has almost run out. I have given in all the forms and documents needed for a Jobseekers allowance means test. I got a call earlier today asking me to come into my local office tomorrow, when I asked why I was told that there are lodgements on my bank statements that are "questionable". These are a mix of various loans from my parents and cash given to me by friends for letting them use my credit card. Some of the lodgements are also cash I got from selling some of my belongings etc. I was told that these are all considered as Means!
Surely this lot can't just cut me off?
Also i'm doing a full-time training course for the next six weeks, how does this effect me?

    Thanks.

BTW I lost my job when the building trade went bang last year and I am actively seeking work before anyone asks.

They have to consider your means as they are trying to get you onto ALLOWANCE. Its got nothing to do with trying to stop you. Go in, explain the sums of money as best you can, tell them the truth, and sit it out.

You will have to sign off for the duration of the training course, because as its a full time course you are not available for full time work.

And as IT Loser said, Allowance is a means tested payment, just be honest regarding the lodgements. And everything else they ask you. And get any documentation back to them in time.

    OK update on this.

Social said training course is not an issue as i'm doing it privately.

I was called in for a "chat" about the situation. I explained everything honestly as I have nothing to hide. I was told to put my situation in writing and post it to them which I did last week. In reality my means are effectively zero. I am on the breadline and my family can't carry me and I don't expect them to. My bank balance is in the red big time and I am not getting a bean from the Social until they make their decision. Still no word and still no payment, I am reluctlantly dependent on jobseekers payments at the moment and now i'm not getting any! I never thought my payments would stop while this was going on.

i would speak to your load TD there good at sorting these things out fast the welfare are affraid of TD's i did it myself and they sorted it out with the welfare in double quick time if it had been up to the social welfare i would have been homless

if you are stuck for money you can apply for Supplementary Welfare Allowance at your local health centre they will pay you your welfare money until its gets sorted

+1 go to your Community Welfare officer for money while you are waiting on the Social Welfare's decision

Thanks for the info about the CWO guys. Have no choice now. I rang the social today and I was told that my application would likely be rejected! I was then told about the Supp. welfare allowance. I was told that my negative bank balance would not be taken into consideration as one can have up to 20k in the bank and still get the full amount of allowance! I am so disgusted at how i'm being treated by this shower. There are scumbags claiming the dole years who never worked a day in their lives. I am going to appeal this at all costs on principal if nothing else. If that doesn't work, i'll have to look for work in England once my exams are over. Word of advice for anyone in this boat - open another bank account and leave it empty, just in case.

If your planning on opening an account to put lodgements into that you don't want the government to see - I'm almost certain that's illeagle

OP banned 1 month for advocating fraud - which is what not disclosing the full extent of your financial affairs would be.

But you can't open a Bank Account without the Government knowing - you must give your PPS number when opening any account.
