    Hey all,

    Would anyone know the best place for hiring SEP/MEP aircraft in Dublin?

    I've heard both skytrace and NFC in Weston are looking for €200p/h for 5hrs dual in single engine piston before they'll even let you hire anything, surely there are cheaper ways of building a few hours? F/atpl with SEP and MEP btw.

    Cheers

    Prices up the country seem to be ridiculous. Then you need to add landing fee's on top.

    Waterford Aero Club have 2 brand new Tecnams for €125 per tacho hour. A tacho hour will get you about 1hr 20mins in the air. In an hours flying you will use approx 0.7 tach hours which is €87.50 an hour. If you throttle back the less you pay, throttle up, the more you pay.

    They have a PA28-161 Warrior II for €172 per tacho hour. Again, 0.7 of a tacho hour will give you an hour in the sky. Thats €120 per hour for a better aircraft then a clapped out 150/152.

    So to break it up, on average you'll pay for an hours flying.

    Tecnam -> €87.50
    Warrior -> €120

    No landing fee's, no fuel surcharge and great availability.

    Both have to ask for five hours for insurance reasons. They don't like it any more than you do. On top of that both are flight schools, so need their aircraft for training. The cheapest way is the one we all used. Go to the US. But as you already have your F/ATPL you don't really need hours as such but need currency. That you can get get by flying with Instructors for a bit.

    For flying within Ireland, joining a club is the way to go. It's cheaper than hiring from a commercial school. There are very few aircraft for hire in this country. No twins at all.

    Why doing a JOC, course... unless you have a sim check/interview coming up its a complete waste of money..keep your money till called for a check and then get some sim hours. Honestly it carries no wait on your cv and anything gained will be lost in a matter of weeks and it could be years before been called for interview ! Take an in-partial view or that of the money grabbers.... good luck.
    As for best hire rates, Clubs all the way, despite an annual sub in most it will generally work out cheaper if you plan on more then 10hrs a year, better availability and nice environment to be in compared to flight schools, if you have been through the system you may just wanna experience the social side of flying.

    Its a complicated issue, but basically I'm not paying for the JOC itself. Did you go down the JOC route yourself? Thanks for the advise anyway.

    Back on topic, I think joining club will probably be the best option, can you recommend any in particular? The Airport Flying Club looks like the most appealing to me of the ones I've found and emailed.

    Cheers

    Hey APM

    Well if its a no cost then jump on it, just trying to save you some cash..
    No I didnt do the JOC course as its only really a new development in the last few years and wasnt needed / or sold as a course when i was at that stage.
    As for clubs, I would suggest Leinster aero club based in dunshaughlin.

    All the best with the job hunt
