Just brought up in another thread but since when did Sky+ become a verb?

So here we go what do you say when you are recording something from the TV?

    Sky+ing it?
    Recording it?
plusing it <<<< for people with out sky.

Am I the only one to still say that I 'tape' things?

Am I the only one to still say that I 'tape' things?

I actually say "I'll video it" or "Do you want me to video it?".

From now on I am using either To tape or to videoplus

Technically I think that you are more correct than I am as the verb "to video" existed before VCRs and is actually an old verb meaning to imitate or copy. Then again, maybe I should 'hard disk' it, or 'flash memory' it.

    Hmmm, pot kettle?

    Perhaps HDed?

    I HDed it
    or
    I will HD that later
    or
feck the HDing box is not working.

And they also want you to refer to "their" verbs correctly! ;)

Sky are pushing the phrase SkyPlus as if it were a new thing, as if there were never video recorders or VideoPlus, or as if there weren't any other boxes that allowed you to record.

I still have a video recorder (almost never used) and because my Sky sub will be getting the road soon (feck-all on it worth watching most of the time) and the fact that Sky+ is useless unless you keep up your Sky sub (imagine a video recorded that only allowed you to record if you had a current TV licence), I usually respond to someone who uses SkyPlus as if it were a verb with "Sorry - you what ? Oh, you recorded it"

All that said, "hoovering" became a verb (at least in some parts), so you have to watch out for those nasty marketing folk - they're persistent little buggers.....

Probably, but my point was that there was a non-branded word - "vacuuming" - before Hoover hijacked it in the same way that Sky have hijacked "recording".

It's best to say HDDed it, as some may think you are referring to High Definition.:)

    "I'll record it"

I guess I'm just not as edgy as you guys, what with your abstract verbs and all.

I sky+ it because it is the stuff of HG Wells blah blah blah.

I am also one of those annoying people that try to convert friends to Sky Plus.

You still playing with the grandkids, George ? :D

Seriously, though - what's the point in investing, getting used to, and using a proprietary technology that becomes unavailable once you unsubscribe ?

Think about it this way. When you're sitting in the stand in Thurles thinking "this is a deadly match - I can't wait to see that shamozzle on the telly later", then you realise you forgot to set the video/sky+ box/UPC digital thingy or whatever, what do you say?

    Do you say
    a) "FCUK IT! I forgot to VideoPlus the match!"
    b) "FCUK IT! I forgot to PVR the match!"
    c) "FCUK IT! I forgot to Sky+ the match!"

NO! You don't even say "FCUK IT! I forgot to record the match!". You say "FCUK IT! I forgot to tape the bastardin' match!"

    QED...
