Anyone ever use / got one of these:

Thinking of buying one and just woundering if anyone has used one and particularly if anyone has gotten one onto a plane as normal checked luggage (albeit with an excess baggage charge due to the weight).

Haven't bought from them, but I've used a bike case which looked exactly the same. It was an extremely tight fit getting the bike and wheels into the case - I wouldn't use it again for risk of damaging something.

These ones are a much more sensible width:

...but also a lot more expensive.

Last time I travelled I put a cardboard bike box inside a soft case. Easy to pack, plenty of room and no damage to the bike.

I have one of these. I bought it as I'm heading to Spain in a few weeks. I tried it out when I got it. In order to fit the bike in you have to remove the wheels/Pedals/Handlebars/Saddle pillar. Its a tight fit. The wheels will not fit in if you put them in the supplied wheel bags (at least my bike wont anyway) I suppose that would depend on the size of your bike, but mine is "average". I'm flying with Aer lingus and I have paid for bike transport, so it will be checked in as oversized luggage. I happy with it though..I fully expect my bike to arrive in pne piece.

I rented a case before that looks exactly like that. Was a real struggle to get my bike in (56cm road bike).

    Thanks to all.

It's £180 including delivery for the bike box - about €210, so the €275 in CSS for the bigger box is not too bad at all - its worth an extra €65 to be sure that no bits are going to break off whilst trying to squash the bike in.

I just noticed there, the CSS box with logo is €275 but the exact same box without the logo, just plain blue is €349! Wow, what a difference in price just so they get a little bit of advertisement. Thats amazing :p

That looks identical to the Wiggle one. If so, it's not a bad case at all. Can be a tight fit to get a bike in, but they do go in and the protection ain't too bad.

Cheers Tiny, just ordered the case on wiggle - €177 incl. delivery so fingers crossed everything fits.

Size Large Planet X, in Wiggle box (note, you have to take the rear mech off)

The dhb one pictured (it is sold under many names) is OK and bikes do fit once you know how to pack them but it is tight. I would be worried about the pressure you have to put on the dhb one to get it closed (especially if your wheels are in any way sensitive.) I'd also be worried about the quality; I have used it for two trips and on one the box broke and the other one of the clasps broke. Wiggle were very good both times but it doesn't say much for the box.

The CycleSuperStore one is a much better box. Barrabus had one on the Marmotte and it was very neat and no problem closing it. As Morgan says it is just a more sensible width. It's just over £200 from Wiggle, definitely worth £40 over the dhb one.
