Skirmish - Whats needed?

Ok I'm going to be going to my first skirmish in about two weeks time and I want to make sure I turn up prepared. I've been buying a few things, but I just want to make sure its enough.

    What I have:
    1 x DBoys (Full Metal CQB) M4
    1 x Dboys Hi-cap Mag
    1 x Battery (Fully charged)
    1 x BDU Trousers
    1 x BDU Jacket
1 x Neoprene Half Face Mask
    2 x Protection Glasses (1 x Goggles, 1 x Glasses)
    1 x Balaclava

I know I will need extra mags, and probably a quick loader, but how many mags is advisable?

Will I need an extra battery? I'm guessing its safer just to buy a second one, because if the battery dies you're pertty much outta the game.

I've planned on buying a cheap set of boots that I only plan on using a few times and then invest in a better pair at a later stage.

Should I invest in a second gun? If so, what type?

Anything else you'd recommend me buying?

Can people also comment on what fitness level is required for airsoft?

The only absolute essential thing you need going to a first skirmish is yourself, an AEG and a decent pair of boots for running around in. BDU's are optional, but since you have them already, all the better :)

    However, to answer your questions;

You have one high cap at the moment, which you could pretty much get away with for an average skirmish, refilling between games. For handyness, you could get a second hicap and at least have the option of reloading midgame.

If you're gonna go with midcaps (my personal preference) You will need a speed loader alright, I normally carry about 6 midcaps (100rounds each), for most games, on an average daily skirmish, I'd only reload maybe once, but again, it varies with your playing style.

A single battery should last all day if you're not too trigger happy. Most sites do have charging facilities though, and will be more than happy to charge up your battery for you.

If you can afford it, invest in a decent pair of boots now, looking after your feet is one of the most important things you can do when you're going to be on them all day. I'd personally recommend Magnum boots or 5.11's. You can pick up a decent pair of magnums for 100euro that will last and be quite comfortable.

Also, dont skimp on socks, get a decent pair of hiking/boot socks, or at the very least, wear two good pairs of sports socks.

A single AEG will get you through a days skirmish no problem, some people, including myself, carry a pistol aswell as a backup, but I find I very rarely use my pistol.

You'll no doubt want to buy lots more stuff once you start skirmishing, but just get out there and have fun the first time, no point in going out loaded down with lots of shiny kit that you wont use.

Every fitness level is catered for really, take it at your own pace and dont wear yourself out. Remember to drink plenty of water or you'll dehydrate, especially on a warm day.

I've only skirmished few times and from my own experience
One Mini-Battery lasted me the whole day.
One Bottle of BB's lasted me the entire day.

With regards to Magazines so far, 1 Hi cap has done me fine.
I've only had to use a 2nd High Cap once last Saturday when
in the middle of a game the spring decided release itself.
(I've a few mid caps but they jammed on me even after oiling)

I'm unfit so could not be bothered running around the place at top speed
prefer to take my time, listen while going through the forest etc and
kinda hide or wait for people to get close enough for a hit.

Pistols have not used it yet in a skirmish.
and was horrified to see people loosening them in the middle of a game.

Thanks kdouglas and Bullets for that info.

I think I'm gonna take your advice kdouglas about the boots and invest in a decent pair, and take Bullets advice about hiding in the ditch :D

Trust me definitely get a pair of decent boot.:p

As for your high cap i got away with one on my first skirmish (a M4 300rd) but if you have the €€€ get another one as it will be better for you.

Like all newbies i used to ware a bally but with the warm weather i wouldnt dream of waring one now but maybe in the winter.

I cant stress how much to get another battery if you are using the one you got with the gun as i did not even get a half a day out of mine when i first played Rathbeggan with my S-Syetem and yes it was fully charged.

Like Kdouglas i rarely use my pistol unless i am playing the LZ game in Red Barn and in the Court yard game so it is really up to you.If you do want a second AEG you could always pick up a MP5k as they are a very good price in nearly all irish retailers.

Now,BDUs,it relyy depends on where you are playing as in a dense woodland where they would be handy or if your play in a place like the warehouse it wouldnt really matter

My First time out I was all geared up, brought a few AEG' and pistol,
came with 2 facemasks, several batteries, thousands of BB's
was all geared up in digital woodland camo with a tac vest on etc etc etc.
After running around he place the first/2nd time playing I found stuff restrictive.

Ended up just wearing a pair of OD moleskins, shirt and ditching the tac vest.
    Much more comfortable.

What meyhods would you suggest for keeping hydrated? Just a plastic bottle or would you suggest something like this 219-0198998A67UC320244M.jpg

On normal skirmish days you're back to the safe zone every hour or so at most anyway, so a plastic bottle is absolutely fine, just leave it there. The hydration pack things just mean carrying a chunk more weight - water's heavy! Useful for long milsim games no doubt, but not for skirmishing.

Yeah for your first skirmish try make things as easy for yourself as you can

    im pretty much a starter.

    i got a g36 and 2 hi cap mags,

magnum elite II boots €100 ish from polimil.co.uk delivered.

    bolle x1000 goggles
helmet,, cause i have to and it makes sense where i play.
    also have a face mask.
water,, water and more water, what ever u use, either hydration or bottles bring loads.

of all places i got decent comfy boots socks in tescos for €5 for 2 pair. but i have a good quality pair too..

gloves is handy, i use the €5 pair from aldi i got in the biking offers
i got a standard 8,4v battery which is fine and a cheap 9.6v which is fine too for a good day as long as your not on full auto all the time.
I have a co2 pistol but dont use it.

some energy bars is a good idea too.

just be keep yourself safe and enjoy it

I'd just like to say a big thanks to everyone who offered advice. I'm going to buy a pair of boot and just stick with a bottle of water for now until I get a better feel of the game, and maybe up my fitness levels. Thanks again.

Best of luck, hope you have a blast! Where are you headed?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,524 ✭✭✭✭Quazzie

I was thinking of heading to Rathbeggan. It probably one of the furthest away from me (offaly) but looking at the pics I've seen it's the one that most interests me. Either that or the warehouse. Indoor CQB doesn't reall. Appeal to me too much but I'd consider the warehouse simply because the guy 'AirsoftReloaded' on here seems so sound.

As long as you get out and get a shoot thats all that matters. Apart from the obvious differences of outdoors and cqb, they allow you to play different ways. With the Warehouse you can be in the thick of it in less than 5 seconds, whereas outdoors you can be a sneaky b*****d for a while:D

Anyway, enjoy it and be safe

Your welcome to wexford if you fancy a day away..
11 possible acres of woodland madness. the more people we have the larger the gaming area.
