Finding out the Gender at 17 weeks

    Hi All,

I have my 20week scan at 17 weeks (they're going on my LMP), we also want to find out the gender of the baby, but we're thinking it could be more difficult at 17 weeks than it would be a few weeks later? I have an opportunity at the moment to put it back a few weeks and I'm wondering if I should take it?

We're going to UCHG and I'm not sure about the quality of their ultrasound images.

    Advice very much appreciated!

    xx

    KC

this isn't really an answer but i just want to warn you that even with a later scan you may not be able to find out. at my twenty week scan my little ones legs were in the way and the same happened again at 40 weeks! so im just letting you know not to get your hopes up just in case cause i was dying to know but in the end it was a surprise!

    Heh heh. The little scamp!

I think I will have to respect the baby's feelings on modesty if he/she does something like that! :D

    Hi Kitten,

I had a scan at 12 weeks and it was too early to find out but midwife said to me that it becomes a lot easier to tell the sex via ultrasound at about 14 weeks!

So i would say there is a good chance of you being able to find out at 17 weeks!
When are you going for the scan?

The scan will be near the end of August. I just checked there and it'll be more like 16.5 weeks.

I might ring them up and see what they say. I'm not too fussed about getting seen by the consultant sooner rather than later.

I thought I heard somewhere that anomaly scans had to be done between 18 and 22 weeks though.

    Hi kitten,

I had a scan done yesterday at 12 weeks 4 days and i asked her about the gender I thought i wouldnt be able to know until the next scan but she said that she could tell me now what it is!

I couldnt believe that they could tell so early!! She said next scan will tell me for me sure but she was fairly certain of the gender :)

are you sure it's an anomoly scan? 16.5 weeks is very early for that.
    it's usually done now 20 - 23 weeks.

i found out the sex at my 18 week scan, consultant said he was 95% sure and have had it confirmed two other times since

    hope you can find out!

I was just under 16 weeks when we found out, they were sure the boy was aboy, but at the time said the girl was about 90% sure, because apparently girls tend to be more difficult, as something could be hidden by the umbilical cord or a limb.
