given his embarrassing run of form he needs to make some decisions soon
i would advise him to take a year off to recuperate, he must be emotionally exhausted or something
hes gonna start loosing sponsorship deals and appearance money if he cant stop the rot quick
if i was him i'd get a mysterious ankle or knee injury and rule myself out for 6 - 8 months (during that time off he can design golf courses, take some photos for kartel and flora etc)
what do ye think is his best route from here

I'm sure Harrington knows what to do. Me, I'd guess he needs to spend more time at the range but maybe at his stage in life it's not his priority.

I'm with stockdam on this, he should go shoot some stuff.

isn't that his problem though - spending too much time at the range changing stuff around
i think he needs to take a few months off and regroup in 2010 with his team

not his biggest fan but i think he needs to try and enjoy his golf again, instead of constantly looking at his swing,at this stage his short game is also suffering which he could always rely on

Don't think his short game is suffering, he simply has to rely on it far too much because he's missing greens all the time.

I dont think any of us(conno esp) are in a position to criticise the greatest irish sportsman of all time regarding his form etc. padraig is obviously working on making a few changes to keep himself competitive at the very highest level for a long period. Faldo did it, woods did it, norman did it and all were the better for it. So before all us EXPERTS have a go just think who were talking about here.

Dont think a year out is the best option Conno. For a start, a year away will rule him out from next years ryder cup and also he will want to put right his bad form NOW, a year away from the sport may improve his technique but he needs to be playing competetive golf to chart his progress. Form is a funny thing aswell, it can go as quicky as it came and vice versa. I think one top 10 finish could start to change things for him. I just wish he didnt mess with whats already proven in his swing. His heads all over the place with all this tinkering. Im sure he knows best though. Good luck to him in the open.

missing 5 cuts on the bounce is not good, but paddy sets himself up for majors.he will be in the running for the open, this is when he wil play his game.

I suggest Conno take a year off ... so we can recuperate.

We're definitely emotionally exhausted ... or something!

As Duval said, you have to go through pain to test some of the work that you're putting in.. and you have to put yourself in the arena, can't walk away to put your game back together and then show up.
Difficult preparation for him but such is life sometimes.

    greatest irish sportsman my hole:eek:.
a man who was famous for finishing second, and only won his first major because garcia choked more than he did, which then give him the confidence to go and win two more mind you beating garcia again, and poulter(who doesnt win tournaments)in last years open.
saying that he is without doubt the finest golfer we have produced but we have produced finer sports men.
what about tony mc coy who has dominated nh for 10 years now and has no peers in the world with the exception of ruby who is also irish and risk their lives every day.aidan o brien who is dominating flat racing at the moment and had nearly 30 group one victories last year
what about ron delany without doubt our finest athlete.
soccer players john giles, liam brady or roy keane.
gaa stars mick o connell, christy ring ,or dj.
but top of the list has to be stephen roche who in one season won "3" majors, the tour de france, giro de italia, and a world title in cycling (one of the hardest sports around)and only for a knee injury shortened his career could have dominated world cycling for years

slightly off topic but generally happens when people get bored by conooooo's waffle, would agree he may not be g.o.a.t. yet but he may get there as for stephen roche, one word comes to mind..........juice;)

the stephen roche part is surely a wind up?

kelly was always far superior at cycling fast in my opinion

anyways back to harro - best advise he can take is to pull out of golf for the rest of this year and come back refreshed
he should down his clubs completely for 3 - 4 months

  • Subscribers Posts: 4,419 ✭✭✭PhilipMarlowe

No more talk of Roche or EPO or judicial investigations or Francesco Conconi here please...

Bit harsh there man. If not greatest Irish sportsman, at the very least in the shakeup. Well short of  territory. (Mistook your post for one of the Conno's there for a minute, but realised error and so thought it worth replying)

Unless he wins another major with Tiger in it, will always have a bit of a shadow cast over the trio. Still probably tops the list of greatest Irish sportmen for me nonetheless. Roche's effort was ostensibly very good, but his inability (injuries etc unfortunate allright) to do any follow up to his annus mirabilis puts a bit of a dampner on it. Cycling subsequent exposure as the most pharmaceutical of sports after that the former sport "athletics", unfortunately leaves too much of a question mark over his achievement.

BTW: can you always cut the corner on the 8th from the blue tees?
