Anyone up for Thursday evening spin.

say 70km or so (maybe 100km if visibility is good).

    Route:
Either Wicklow (maybe up Glencullen and Pineforect Rd)

    or

    Kildare/Meath

Meet at M50 bridge out of Dundrum for Wicklow
    or
    Phoenix Pk for Kildare/Meath.

    Thanks.

    6pm from either area.

I could be on for that, preference would be wicklow so I don't have to take my good bike into town to work. 6ish?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,400 ✭✭✭Caroline_ie

I'd love to but I'd never make it on time for 6 @M50. So if there is a spin at 6, my vote would be the flat :(

Flat for me from Phoenix Park

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,831 ✭✭✭ROK ON

OK so, more folks for flattish one.
It'll be my first time out on new bike (compact), so I am happy to avoid the hills for this week.

A course I usually do, that is very nice is Phoenix Park, Leixlip (via backroads), Straffan, Kill (very quiet strech of roads).

From Kill we can turn right and head to Punchestown and Curragh/Naas dirction, with home via Clane, Maynooth etc).

or head up to TV mast and down to Saggart and then home via Lucan or over Bohernabreena.

    So lots of choices.

So will we say 6pm at the Famleigh Gate of the Park?

    Hills next week.

My situation is I hope to make it.

I'm bringing my kids to Carton House to see Newcastle Utd train at 4.00pm which will go on for an hour. Then I've to leg it back to Ratoath throw the bike in the car and head to the park. I should make it but there might be a delay.

If you could PM me your number I'll let you know if I'm can make it closer to the time.

    which is farmleigh gate ...?

    which is farmleigh gate ...?

If you cycle down Porterstown Road, go left and head towards the Park, it's the "straight on" at the junction where you turn left for Castleknock and right for Chapelizod.

The gate is closed to cars.

I too am out, playing pool!

I'm still on for it. Only concern is being at the wrong gate, I'm not 100% au fait with Phoenix Park yet. Is it the gate on White's Road, centred in this map?

    Yes that is the gate.

Got there too late due to big headwind & a funeral!

    Doing a few laps & a pint.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 72 ✭✭waitforme

I got there late, after going full pace into afrrementioned headwind, but guessed they were only maybe 5mins ahead, so opted for 'hunt the boardsies' rather than doing loops.

After hurtling in my guessed direction at full pace, I found them turning right at a point I would've gone straight. Ended up with a good spin, but my legs are killing now from that initial blast. Defo a good workout tonight. Time for a hot bath :-)

Thanks to Caroline.ie and Waitforme for a lovely spin.
Trojan - we waited almost 20mins, and just had to leave.

74.6km at a nice relaxed pace. Park Leixlip Straffan Kill Saggart Lucan Park.

Thanks to Caroline for suggesting Rugged Lane hill to finish off. Nice and close enough to home for hill repeats. My compact works.

Strange feeling on new bike (Orbea Aqua). It is really comfy, sleek, responsive and light (9kg for alum bike).
However I am not sure I like the asthetics. I don't like the colour or the handlebars. Yet it feels lovely to ride.

What happened to the Dolan? Did that go to Kerry? I had a ~100km spin out Meath direction myself that involved a ~45km race in the middle, it was savage :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,831 ✭✭✭ROK ON

Dolan is my w/e bike. In Kerry. Will make an appearance at Sean Kelly.

Was a lovely night for a spin.
Not to hot. Not cold. Didn't seem to be much wind. Goldilocks.

    Club race or random race?
How did you do. I imagine legs heavy after w/e endevours.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,414 ✭✭✭✭Trojan

Feck it, must have arrived only a minute or two after ye left. I went out the road a bit, to the first junction, but I hadn't a clue which way you might have gone, so turned back.

It's a pity I didn't make it myself. I brought my 2 sons to see Newcastle train in Carton House but didn't get out of there until 5.30

My kids got their photos taken with a few of the Newcastle players and got some autographs so they're delighted with themselves.

Sometimes family comes 1st and a Daddy's gotta do what a Daddy's gotta do!:(
