I'm considering getting a 1967 mustang, and want to know how this would afect insurance and tax, does it fall under different rules cause of its age? (4.7 litre engine)

As it's over 30 years old it would qualify for classic tax at 48 euro per annum, or is it 74? Anyway its peanuts. You should also be able to get classic insurance and others on here would know more about that. Also, as a classic, it wouldnt have to undergo any NCT. Apart from petrol its a win win situation and a beautiful car into the bargain. Hope it all works out for you.

Thanks mate, Just two things left to worry about, and thats pertrol consumption , which I dont expect to be good at all, just want to know how bad:P, and insurance, cause at the end of the day it is a 4.7 engine

I wouldn't worry too much about engine size - the value of the car tends to be the most important factor for insurance. You can probably expect fully comp to be in and around 400EUR if it's garaged.

That said, Axa had some weird rules about people under 30 for their classic insurance...

Well i'd fall short of 30. Cheers for the info

You also need to have a policy on another (non-classic) car to get actual classic insurance. Otherwise you'll be trying to insure it on a normal policy with all that a 4.7 litre engine entails.

Yeah, and usually mileage is limited on a cheap classic policy, so you'd really want to have another car as a daily driver.

    or a 302, 390, 427, 428 .... :D

Fuel efficiency is poor, but not that bad. Expect between 17-22mpg on a 289 or 302 with an autobox...

Good choice of car Buck :) and you never ask a Muscle Car owner what it does to the gallon its a 5 litre for god sake:D My 302 with hi lift cams and 5 sp manu does regular 25mpg with the long 5th gear and 3.50 diff. One thing people forget when buying a classic, no matter how good it is you will always have to do running maintanance. These cars (all 30yo ) go wrong and thats the nature of the beast and thats why we love working on them. If your buying a Yank and need advice log on to our club site were a friendly bunch:D www.americanmusclecarsireland.net
