Why do we do it al the time??

can we think of nothing better. Fair enough if we ave a hurricane u can talk about it, but when its raining out, its just not interesting.

    so i ask you, why???

Great way of cutting the ice. Better than awkward silence.

Ah sure a grand soft day like today is enough to dry up most conversation and lead us to talk of the weather, isn't it?

I mean last summer we didn't have all these weather conversations at all , did we? Sure that was just a pure bad summer altogether. Hardly a summer at all I'd say - more like a weekend of sun and then the rain, am I right?

Ah jaysus that's always the way. Not like the summers when I was young - wall to wall sunshine we had back then.... Jaysus nostalgia - it ain't what it used to be, wha?

every single time i go into the butchers the fella says "Looks like the wethers clearing up"....in the midst of our mini heatwave(!) a couple of weeks ago he said it. I think he may be bored with his job or something

i used ta work in a shop and i swear by the end of the day you'd be borderline suicidal.

if its raining....people moan its too wet
if it cloudy....people moan that its depressing
and god forbid if its sunny.... then its too hot!!!

WE GET IT: Ireland isnt blessed with with great weather, however moaning about it to me and anyone else who will listen will do no good!!!!!!

id love ta just say go to new orleans and see how u like the winds over there

    sorry, rant over :)

Because we get a lot of weather in Ireland.

I can't honestly remember one day that we didn't have 24 hours of it.

I think its better to talk about the weather than just stare at someone.Plus everyone in Ireland loves talking about the weather, no idea why its so fascinating but what can you do.

I noticed they talk about in New Zealand a lot too. Probably because they have very variable weather patterns like ours so it could rain in the morning, sunshine in the afternoon and hailstones in the evening.

Conversation in the Atacama desert would probably get a little repetitive.
"Could Do with a drop of rain."
"They're not giving any for a while."

Can you imagine - you're a bedouin trader, trekking a camel train laden with salt across the sahara desert, alone for weeks on end, and next thing you encounter a camel train coming across the shimmering horizon towards you - you gradually get closer and closer and pull to a halt beside each other in the blazing heat of the afternoon desert...

you're hardly going to be able to break the ice by smiling at the chap and giving him a conspiratorial wink, rubbing your hands together and saying "jaysus that's shocking weather" - thank god for the fact that we actually have a weather to talk about and not just a climate!
