I took apart an eee 701 for no real reason a while back, and it was a right pain. Just be careful when you're doing it, it's easy to break the plastic case of the laptop, when you try and remove the base. There's probably a disassemblely guide online somewhere that shows you how to do it properly...

I already replaced the screen & keyboard on this one and it seem very much like a disposable machine as it did not take much for either to go, maybe Asus are hoping that the bios battery fails after the warranty runs out .

I would try posting a question there regarding the battery as I find it quite strange that it would be going already seeing as its a relatively new machine. Worth a try anyways, maybe even updating the bios to the latest version may help.
