Will these work in a PC without a modem. Is there a modem in the dongle?

They plug straight into a USB port and don't have anything to do with any modem you may or may not have.

Don't forget to do a search and look around in the Midband section before you decide who to sign up with ;)

I made a mistake when I was doing this, I signed up for the O2 one and now I'm stuck with a year long contract. I only really needed it for a short while till we got the house phone line active. If it's something you're going to be using for a long time, that's not so bad but it's something temporary, try Meteor as I believe they don't have a fixed 12 year contract. The 3G ones are rip offs. Dont bother.

Meteor is 3G, they all are. None of them are broadband, and results will vary wildly, depending on more variables than you ever thought possible.

I know they all use the 3G technology, but there are three different dongles, one is the white one from O2, the other is that weird looking standing unit from Meteor and then there's a third one with 3G on it.

Very little difference in the Modems. The limitation is the rubbish-ness of W-CDMA, which 3G should never have adopted. The 2G only used CDMA in USA because it was cheap. GSM-2G (with 70k GPRS or 245k EDGE), WiMax and LTE-4G doesn't use it.

Because of W-CDMA, 3G(AKA HSDPA, iHSPA, HSUPA, HSPA etc) will never be reliable. Comparison of 3G's W-CDMA with other Wireless.

I think your referring to the one with 3 on it which is the company.
