The International Rugby Board has confirmed it will charge the South Africa Rugby Union with alleged misconduct after Springboks players wore armbands in support of banned forward Bakkies Botha in the final Test against the British and Irish Lions in Johannesburg on Saturday.

Just desserts, fairly ridiculous conduct by the bokks. whatever about the unfair charge to Botha, bringing it onto the pitch was silly.

Serves them right. One of the great things about rugby is the respect players have for the referee and officials. The armbands were a disgrace. Total disragard for the rugby officials. They could appeal the case but bringing it onto the pitch is uncalled for. What about the eye gouging?? 8 week ban is not justice, should have got at least 6 months.

I think they expected this before deciding to do their "protest".

That makes the protest worse, not caring about the consequences.

I say the IRB should make them wear Lions jerseys in their Tri Nations games. :D:D

ah, in fairness they were not supporting Burger (he of the eye gouging) but Botha

Botha's ban was pretty harsh but this demonstartion was pretty pathetic all the same

Good enough for them. The most childish, petulant, precious demonstration I've seen in some time. When I first saw the armbands I wondered, considering it was a South African team, if there was some new, very important racial issue that the team were bringing to the fore.

    Nope.

When my mate told me that they were protesting against Botha's ban, I honestly thought he was taking the mick, especially considering Burger only got 8 weeks.

So what will happen to them if found guilty of mis-conduct?

I was really surprised by the Boks on this tour, I never knew they were this kind of team. Funnily Paul Wallace claimed that they were better characters than the Boks of 1997 last night on the last word!
From the off, the moaning, intimidation, off the ball antics, protests, sledging, gouging in 3 games was unreal. What would they have been like if they were beaten?
You wouldn't see such behaviour in a whole World Cup not to mind a 3 game series.
The Lions though beaten left SA as heroes and men, they tried to play rugby as it should be, a few things went against them and they were desperately unlucky not to tie the series -the Boks are probably wondering what happened and why no-one likes or respects them anymore - a bit like a drunk at a party who wakes up after ruining everyones night.
The Lions showed teams how to beat them, unfortunately it took them 60 minutes to figure it out.

They'll wear a band on the other arm to protest it as well.
