    Hello All,

I am a long time lurker on here and I have been commuting and Cycling for now two years, I read many of the horror stories people have had commuting but in time have never seen any deliberate actions to hurt/Injure cyclists just lots of stupidity by cyclists and motorists.

But today on my short cycle home as i came up the canal road to the portobello bridge a Dublin city waste collection Van oppened its bins which made a large Bang as I passed, luckilly I wasnt startled and tought nothing of it untill I passed by the truck and saw both lads inside giglling. I stopped and was about to go mental at the idiots when I thought of My camera phone so I got a nice picture:
    GetAttachment.aspx.jpg

Any Ideas where I should send it to, I am fine and I know they didnt do any real damage to me but its their intention and these idiots probably try this all the time.

    Thanks

I'd me mad too but I'd let it go. If they saw you taking their picture, it might have given them pause for thought. That might be enough retaliation.

I don't follow. I don't think those bins can be opened from the cab - they are manual?

A mate of mine is in DCC - he manages the lads who clean the streets and he's a keen cyclist. I'll be interested to see what he thinks of this thread!

It's quiet possible that the door opened on it's own.
I think you are over reacting to a perfectly harmless situation. Lot's of vehicles make loud noises in traffic and I don't understand why you want to report them for this.

how do you know they were "giggling" at you ?
how do you know that they released the doors in an attempt to cause you harm ?

BTW, I have no connection to DCC or the two lads you have posted pictures of.

I understand where you are coming The key to this is whether they can/are opened from the cab, If they cant be. I am Sure DCC will rightly ignore my complaint.

I believe it was done purposely due to the timing of the whole thing plus they reactions, hard to describe but a childish mischevious look on their face.

As I said I suffered no real harm and I wasn't that startled but it was the Intent that p1ssed me off, what if it was n older less experienced cyclist.

A guy tried to teach me a lesson by using his car to try to knock me off my bike on Clonskeagh road. ( he was shouting about me not using the cycle lane on the road by the Beacon).

Any way the threatening behaviour stopped immediatly at the next set of lights when my brother and me both took out our camera phones and started to record his details.

    ha ha some people..:D
I heard a bang, luckily it wasnt 140kg of plastic explosives...I mean if it was I could have died;)

Jesus christ how the hell do you get through life? your thinking of complaining because of a loud bang? then see two lads laughing in a van? so take your anger out on them?

    Un-Believable.

    Get a life. Wear earplugs.

You have absolutely no way of proving (1) intent and (2) that they laughed at you. Also, you have accused 2 individuals of a certain type of behaviour and then posted a picture of them - you could be on tricky legal ground here.

(At the very least the mods shold remove the picture).

Noise is a fact of life. Thankfully you had your wits about you and nothing happened.

But I would suggest that you are probably of a disposition that maybe yu should abandon cycling as a commute.

Ignore those making fun of you OP. You're dead right to be annoyed. Not only did the so-called "workers" use the specially designed hydraulics system in their cab to suddenly and violently, and without thought of the consequences, pop one of the bin doors to make a sound reminiscent of a bomb going off, so that you were understandably so afraid you almost soiled yourself and were almost thrown from your bike, they then had the gall to laugh at your flayling body, the smell of defacation and horror in your face. I mean have disgracefully evil. You, a citizen of this nation doing your best to promote cycling as a form of transport, promoting a greener and healthier lifestyle. How very dare they? i wouldn't bother with DCC, I'd go straight to their mothers and tell them. Mothers are always the best to go to, they get it sorted quicker.

    HTFU or DIE!!!

The OP is getting a lot of unnecessary ridicule so I am closing this thread.
