Going on a Holiday

I'm currently receiving jobseekers allowance, my next signing day is towards the end of July, I was booking a holiday recently and thought i'd organised to be back in time to sign on but I haven't. Is there any way to have my signing day put back a week or so. Don't mind if its at the expense of losing a weeks payment, but i don't wanna piss off the auld welfare office again (I forgot about a signing date before). Anyone know what the drill is? Or are unemployed people not allowed holidays?

    Thanks.

I think unemployed people are certainly allowed holidays but since the rates of welfare paid are estimated to cover the cost of day to day living rather than luxuries I am assuming that you are camping in Wexford. :)
I think though, that the whole idea of JSA is that you get paid on the basis that you are available for work each and every day.

Ring them up and explain that you are away for a few days visiting a relative and what should you do?

Of Course you can put your signing day back a few days!
Go to your local office where you sign and inform them of the day you will be back and tell them you will come and sign on that day.
Once you inform them you will be fine. Sometimes they need it it writting. Call into the office and let us know how you get on

    enjoy your hols!!

Aren't you allowed to receive the dole for up to X weeks while out of the country? <snip>

Fionn MacCool, my post is with regard to days not weeks. To be honest I do not know if you can claim the dole whilst out of the country for x number of weeks. Days - yes, Weeks - I have my doubts unless in special cases. Id say the social welfare insector would have some question to ask.

I believe it's up to two weeks.

Not really unreasonable, given the number of Irish people with relatives overseas. Remember that even NI counts as "overseas" (though granted they don't know that you've gone there!)

Correct your not allowed to take holidays because you are a sponger.
Well able to take holidays but you aren't able to get a job.

I know tons of people who are working full-time paying for a house\rent that aren't able to go on a holiday and your worried about not geting your dole money.

Hope you don't get your payment when you get back your incentive should be get a job and stop being a leech.

You are allowed take 2 weeks holiday a year on a Jobseekers payment. A jobseekers payment is the minanium deemed by the state that a person can live on week to week, if the OP can book and go on a holiday and not worry about missing a weeks payment, no wonder they are going to cut it.

Well if people got upset by my op they're definitely going to get upset by this. I presumed it would be grand ( very stupidly and naively ) that it would be grand to just ring the social welfare office and let them know I wasn't going to be in the country. Which i had again stupidly and naively left till the day I was leaving. It turns out I was supposed to fill in a form of some sort. Tried to get the mother to pick it up for me but no dice, they'd only give it to me in person. So now i'm proper fooked, not going to be home till the 3rd of August and my signing date is the 28th. Is honesty the best policy in this case?

Oh and McDaddy i'm claiming what i'm entitled to at the moment. Not my problem if people can't afford to go on holidays.

To the ignorant person who assumes those on the dole dont want to work GET A REALITY CHECK as if anyone chooses to try and eke out a living on 204 euros per week having previously had a good wage never mind the humiliating exp of being turned down for one job after another on minimum wage, the depression of having no real reason to motivate yourself for the day,and the brain numbing roll of day into day.Nobody chooses to be made redundant with no notice so seriously Mcdaddy try engaging your brain before you begin typing..
