Im hoping to be accepted for one of those access rooms next year (if not, il just pay for campus). Quick question, when you choose to live on campus, are you put into a flat with someone/people that you don't know? (ie. is it randomised?) How many is in each apartment? I guess its a good way to meet new people:)

i got one of those rooms way back when I was in second year - just be aware that getting that will cost you your access grant. and yep, you get thrown in with randomers. imo it's better this way as you get involved with other people and thus their friends etc. In three of my four DCU years I lived with awesome people, so I was very lucky!

thanks for the info:D Getting one of these rooms costs you your access grant but it doesnt affect the maintenance/registration rant that you get of the vec/county council does it?

Hi I had access accomodation as well. It has no effect on the county council maintenance grants. It is really just instead of the access grant, works out about the same I think. The number of people depends where you are:
    Larkfield: 1 roommate
    Hampstead: 4 roommates
    College Park: 4 roommates.
If you have people to apply with then you can but if you have no one specified they just put you in with anyone.

    Best of luck xx

Yeah if you stick down a name of a classmate or whatever you stand a good chance of sharing with them. I'm in hampstead with a mate next year but the other three are a mystery. Adds a bit of excitement I suppose.

Yep you can specify who you want to share with and if both you and your friend are picked to get accom then it's almost certain you will be put in the same apartment.

Is the on-campus accomodation given out at random completely?

I've heard that you'd be more likely to get it if you live very far from the college or if you score very high points-wise, but I've never seen any mention of either officially.
Do these have any truth to them, particularly the one about people living very far away?

no preference based on distance from the college. I know two years ago you were guaranteed a place if you got over 550 but I'm not sure if that's still the case.

For incoming first years those with 500+ points get places first, meaning you're basically guaranteed if you have that. Apart from that it's random as far as I know!
