You have recieved our new gear from O'Neills. Top quality stuff but I cant help but wonder about the branding.

Have a look. does it not look like Adididas brading. the 3 stripes. How can they get away with that!
    Surely its copyrite infringement

    What do you think?

It might have something to do with the fact that O'Neills was formed in 1918, while Adidas followed in the 1920's

so should it not be visa versa then.
    Adidas cant use O'Neills branding.

Suppose it can hurt O'neills having the same brand as one of the biggest sports clothing companies in the world

Its been talked about on here before
Something to do with O'Neill's having the rights in Ireland to the 3 stripes

I think O'Neills claim it only 2 stripes (the outside colour making 2 stripes on the inside). Clever stuff!

Was their not a bit of hassle with the Cork lads back in the late 70s early 80s? 3 stripes international?

O'Neills have the 3 stripes on some jerseys going back to the 70s.

I have gone off them a bit. They seem to be changing designs a little more than they need to.

I think O'Neills have the right (for whatever reason) to use the 3 stripes in the REPUBLIC of Ireland. So on the Dublin jerseys they have 3 stripes but as far as I am aware the "6 county" teams don't ever have gear where the 3 stripes are prominent.

I have absoloutley no sources for this information so feel free to tell me that I'm talking out of my hat !!

Yes I think this is correct. O'neills designs have been a bit dodgy over the last couple of years but IMO the fit and shape of them is streets ahead of the likes of Azzurri.

This was previously discussed here : http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055346643&highlight=Oneills

I'm not having a dig, just it might be worth re reading the posts or merging the threads for those interested in the subject.

If you read the small print under the pic's of the jerseys it says 3 Stripe Jerseys only available in ROI. So that would back up the fact that it is only legal in Ireland :D
