Are there any Boardsies doing these competitions?

Where are they held? I'd love to attend some (as a spectator mind :D) and wondering if anyone could post some info about the format etc?

Not aware of any but I'm not in the know.

Tell you what I'd be interested in though....a coffee tasting competition. Even just for the laugh. The format for the tasting is that you have sets of 3 cups, 2 identical and you have to identify the odd one out.

This suggests you think we can't tell the difference. I'm offended!

    Apparently it's incredibly difficult! :)

Seriously speaking, I'd be interested too!

    Hey,

The latte art comp is on the 28th sept and the coffee cupping is on the 29th Sept, along with the coffee in good spirits. I'll post more details whenever I get them. Everyone should enter ;)

Jasus I'm delighted when I can make a cup I like myself. Trying to impress others would make my head explode.

The beauty of the cupping comp is that you don't have to make any coffee, just taste it :pac:

    I think you should!

In fact I think we should treat it as a boardsies day out, it'll be a lot of fun

I spoke to Jackie from SCAE today and she was delighted about all the interest, especially from people outside of the "industry". The cupping comp is something we can all do so put your hand up if you fancy 24 cups of free coffee ;)

    Where do I sign up?

The webpage should be live soon enough. In the meantime if you pm me your email addresses I'll send you on the email invitation. Any questions you have about the comp feel free to ask on the thread and I'll do my best to answer them.

So for those that don't know, here's a general idea of what happens. Every contestant gets a table and in front of them the runners place 8 rows of three bowls.

Each row contains two identical coffees and one odd one out. Its your job to identify the odd one out. Whoever identifies the most correctly wins but in the event of a tie break, whoever does it quickest wins.

I'm not sure how its going to be done in Dublin but is usually 2 people competing at one time and 6 people in the finals.

You don't have to say anything, or get dressed up or anything, just bring a spoon

    Hey chaps,

Just to introduce myself, I'm a coffee fanatic but make most of my coffee at work (there's an espresso machine about 10 yards from my desk).

So how many people from here are planning on going to the cupping competition? Anyone participated before?

I saw a blog posting by flyingthud saying it was a timed event: is is very stressful?

    Hi Stribb,

Welcome to the forum. The competition isn't really that stressfull and you don't have to "perform" or dress up or anything, just taste coffee.
You have 10 mins to pick the odd one out from three cups in eight seperate triangles.
