    hi there.
if you had of asked why they are cheap, i would have told you. :)

they are cheap in price as they are done from a home, rather than a shop.
therfor, less costly for the tattooist, no shop rent, etc., so they can be done cheaper than average shop price :)
    take care ;)

    I know that.
So i presume you have an autoclave? Have great knowledge in cross contamination? Do you actually have a portfolio online? Did you do an apprenticeship and where if you dont mind me asking?

I'm always weary about people who pierce and tattoo out of home as alot of people like that will tattoo and pierce minors taking advantage of the fact that there is no legal requirements in ireland which is a joke.

Of course i have an autoclave, and an ultrasonic also, as these are most important things to have in this industry. they are used to sterilise the tips and grips etc, so a must for any proffesional tattoist to have. all needles are vacume packed and sterile. And 1 needle used for 1 tattoo.
As for cross contamination, ive already covered this with you. everything is sterile, and ultra clean.
My tattoos are done in a room, used for nothing else, but tattooing.
i do have a portfolio online through a facebook group, feel free to contact me for details about this, if interested in checking it out.
I have worked under a tattooist named phil cummings, owner of Skin Graphics, which used to be on upper abby street, Dublin, now you will find it is called Celestial ring, and have also worked in Miss Fantasias, also in Dublin.

As for tattooing minors, it is illigal to tattoo anyone below the age of 18, and in my books, i consider it GBH.
I do totally agree with you when you say there should be regulations, i.e, where you have to register with your local council, and pass certain HS regulations.
    kind regards.

Actually it's not illegal in this country...the minor thing is self imposed by shops. Pm me to the portfolio?
Also when would you of been working in celestial and with glen in miss fantasia?? (im coming across as really nosey but as you know there's alot of cowboys in the industry)

Be careful your girlfriends account may get banned as your really not meant to use boards to advertise a business or have several people using the one account.

Hey Ian, I am getting my first tattoo next week and I just read your piece on "how much it really hurts" really nicely written, it actually put me at ease a little. I am getting the shoulders done and as written there another frend with a few tattoos told me that not seeing the needle actually helps as hes had back and arms done and said not seeing it actually does make a big diff.

I was a bit of a fainter back in my school days but Im hoping nothing that dramatic will happen. I am a bit of a wuss though and thinking of taking some nurofen before I go in, good idea/bad idea??

    Hi Johnny,
glad to hear the peice has helped to ease you a bit, what i would suggest is make sure you have something good to eat,at least an hour before you go to get tattooed.
As for nurofen, it is hard to say if they work or not, but no harm to take them anyway. just avoid taking asprin as they thin the blood, therfor you can bleed more than usual.
another thing, listen to the tattooists advice on aftercare, it makes all the difference,
    goodluck with your tattoo!
    cheers, Ian.

haha! well johnny, the truth of it is this.
there are no special remedies or anything like that for the pain.
most people will always feel pain during a tattoo, and the main point you need to remember is to stay calm! if you get yourself worked up and tense, this may intensify the pain.
And in saying this, its usually the first 60 seconds can be a shock to the system, but once you realise how it feels, you will become more comfortable. its not as bad as you may think.
edit : there is a numbing cream that some have used ( elma cream), but i know people who have used it,and they reckon it makes the whole feeling a lot more uncomfortable. i suggest you dont take that option, its really not worth it.

I wont be using any special creams or anything. I`m a bit nervous but its the piece Ive wanted with about 18 months now so Im ready to stop talking and get started :) Looking forward in a nervous way.

Best of luck with getting off the ground yourself, provided I dont cry like a baby I might be in to you down the line at some stage.

Hey, I have three small black tattoos that are a little faded. Two I adore and would like to redo and maybe add to and the other is just best forgotten. I got it for the wrong reasons and without enough thought. The two I'd def like work done on are n bigger than 2/3 inches. what cost would the redo be? Thanks!!:D

i am phil cummins. :mad:i am a professional tattoo artist working in the industry nationally and internationally for over ten years, i would just like to state the fact that this person did not train under me but was let go from working in my shop after a couple of weeks:mad:. i do not endorse this individual or agree with his practices:mad:. if anyone has any questions regards this post please dont hesitate to contact me at original.skin@hotmail.com or alternativly you can check out my PROFESSIONAL STUDIO at www.myspace.com/originalskin_tattoos;) . good tattoos are not cheap and cheap tattoos are not good, allways go to a professional tattoo artist with a reputible shop before making any decisions to get tattooed in someones home. i am not happy with this person using my name or studio name to endorse his work.

i can also state for the record that this individual did not work in miss fantasias at all, he was getting tattooed by me for a short period of time there during my apprenticship, before he worked in my first shop-skin graffix(where he was fired from not long after he began) and i reckon glen in adonis piercing in miss fantasias(who for the record is an exceptional body modifier and piercer) would not endorse this persons activities either. be careful people, there are plenty of cowboys out there, if you doubt my judgement please dont hesitate to contact me at....www.myspace.com/originalskin_tattoos -or -original.skin@hotmail.com and i will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
also for the record.......ian,please dont use my name again to sell yourself, i have created my own career on my own merrit without having to sneakily drop names and hope for an outcome.
i was not a member of this website untill i googled my name and i found this post(much to my dismay) and i felt the need to join this forum to defend myself from people bastar*ising my name.......i am not impressed ian- not impressed at all.

and for the record....the information in the above posts regard numbing cream is incorrect also, the numbing cream, which does work if applied correcly is called EMLA CREAM available only on prescription from your pharmascist -not ELMA!!!- elma is the name of a detergent that is used for cleaning blood and ink out of tattoo and medical equipment in an ultrasonic. if you were to apply this as a numbing agent i dread to see the results. like i said, allways contact a professional tattoo artist and not someone tatttoing from home.as this forum has proven, you cant trust CHEAP TATTOOISTS. I DONT ENDORSE THIS PERSON AND HE SHOULD NOT BE USING MY NAME. thankyou for taking the time to read this, you may be thanking me in the long run!

Incidentally, under the none fatal offences against the persons act, a person of the age 16 can consent to surgery without parental consent, so by the strict letter of the law, a 16 year old can be tattooed legally. It's down to an issue of consent. A person can consent to harm but cannot consent to serious harm, and this means serious, like removal of limbs. I am not saying it is morally right to tattoo minors, but it is legal, technically at 16. Keep your GBH to gobbling behind hedges ;)

    Source of info: Glen Haha

Not sure where my last reply went but here goes again.

I went out with Glen about 4 years ago, and I call him a brilliant piercer and a masonic Satanist par excellence. If you truly worked with him then you may well be good. He doesn't tattoo as by his own confession he cannot draw. But if you want any info on legalities re age he's the one to talk to. A person at 16 can consent to surgery without parental consent, so can be tattooed or pierced non-intimately at 16 and anything goes at 17. Like it or not, that's the way it is!

Never use Emla for tattoos! As a local anaesthetic of the amide variety it is a vaso-dilator, which means blood vessels are dilated and ink will 'walk' under the skin. If you want a tattoo like that I can suggest someone who can do them! It would be rude to mention names ;)

Well well What a day Two good old friends together on one board and both in touch. Maybe god goes spin the dice! Hi Sammi and Phil.

If my memory serves me right and this is the Ian I am thinking of he was indeed briefly working in the tattoo shop but was after Phil's time and as he say correctly, not under him. Sammi's observations about EMLA are true too, you would know she listened to me from time to time! Only diffence it it's actually OTC so therefore can be used effectively for piercings, but like Sam n Phil say a bad idea of ink. And I think Phil knows who Sam is referring to about the tattooist who's ink walks Haha Oh those were the days!

I remember going to a health board meeting with Paddy of Body-shock some 5 years ago where they were talking about outlawing tattooing at home. This was 5 years ago so unless someone does something dreadful, and remeber you would never proove you got Hepatitis from home tattooing as it can be caught anywhere, there would be little case. Again not saying this is likely but as Phil points out, the biggest danger is in the cross handling, not the needle. the wiping and handling of tubes!

And Sammi.. I may be a black magician, but I'm a bloody good one! ;)

Incidentally Do you remember Grace Phil... the real small one who overlapped with Ratty. Well this is her account, I rarely talk on forums, but anyway, she was before you Sammi, no overlapping there kid! Hehe And Ian remembers Grace for sure, tho again I forget the actual time line.. but not to worry. Yes tattooists are definitely breeding faster than the regular homo-sapiens these days.
