Some iPhone 2g trouble

First off - I now have an iPhone 3g so the 2g is the least of my worries, that said, I still would like to get it back up and running properly!

Ok, well, I was cleaning my room the other day and found my iphone 2g - turned it on to see the connect to iTunes logo....grand, I connected it and it downloaded and installed the 3.0 update. However, now, it's displaying only the emergency calls page (requires activation):

    56A49C958F5640049EB4DE5FED7CA914-500.jpg

However, when I connect it to iTunes, it displays the following:
    875FA31F2C8A4C69863E1E68B7524FFF-800.jpg

So, it won't activate because it's looking for an AT&T sim... (original US iPhone, came unlocked)

So, I decided that unlocking it/jailbreaking would do the trick... however...

Upon trying redsn0w, it hangs at the 'waiting for reboot' stage in the process, and when trying with Pwnage tool, when it tries to connect to iTunes in DFU mode, it just throws up an error at me (1601) saying that the device could not be recognised.

So...I'm kind of at a loss as to what to do... Anyone?

Restore to standard 3.0, then use PwnageTool in DFU.

    What he said ^ :).

Seriously, it will work. No question.

The direct link to the 2G version is in the Unlocking sticky at the top of the forum.

Have windows and OS X, however...

If I try connect it to iTunes in DFU mode the following happens.

This is displayed for 3-5 minutes
    3EA397E0BFA6483196C8FC86597E734D.jpg

before iTunes throws this error at me
    BA7B4E2F5F9F4864B869C9C7F191ABCF.jpg

making it impossible to restore it to a custom ipsw, or any ipsw.... hence the problem...

Yes, but if you upgraded (instead of restore), it will have kept the unlock, but not the activation.

You need to restore first to lock it and deactivate it.

Then use PwnageTool to unlock, activate and jailbreak. You won't be able to use a custom ipsw until you restore to 3.0.

I've done this myself, had the exact same issue, and the above steps will sort it out.

but you're missing the point here....if it connects in DFU mode I can't restore anything, it only throws errors at me.

Eventually got it - Managed to get pwnage tool / iTunes to co-operate on another lappy without any errors(talk about tempermental, it's almost as bad as a woman!), so it's now running custom 3.0 :D

    Thanks everyone :)
