Was playing FNR4 last night when the ps3 dies . Now its lying dormant with FNR4 stuck in it. I rang sony htere and the man with the overky exagerated london accent gave me a reference number and told me smyths, whom i bought the 60 gig console of 2 years ago, would exchange my console for a refurbished one for 160 euro.

THIS IS AN ABSOULUTE OUTRAGE! I pay 600 euro for a console and they just disregard me. I tried console repair ireland but im not too confident in hteir abilities to be honest. Any one else think sony are a joke??

Are you new to these forums?

I personally think warranties should be related to price somehow.

I am sure I will be pissed off if mine breaks outside warranty but I hope the Slim is out and is cheap by then.

Threaten Sony with all sorts on the phone - try 2 year EU law or whatever it is (there umpteen threads about it here) as a last resort.

EDIT: Threaten them with all sorts of legal solutions - not violence

Erm, you bought it 2 years ago.
There isn't a persistent problem with PS3 consoles so they have no reason to offer a 360 RRoD style deal.
It's well out of warranty, and whilst I sympathise with someone whose console has died, there isn't a company in the world that would replace, free of charge, a machine thats a full year outside the warranty.

Your habit of resorting to insults about the support staff "man with the overky exagerated london accent" kinda says a lot about attitude and approach.

And truth is, the deal of a refurb for 150 is probably the best you're going to get, once again in any other field, with any other product you'd be told "We can't help" and have to buy one, full price.

The only but of advice, if you do go down the refurb route, is to make sure if you have a troublesome 60gb machine that that's the version you get back, they don't make 60gb PS3's anymore and you may get a 80gb one instead, I don't know, and that has no PS2 backwards compatibility. Just a warning.

And I have to say, for entirely personal reasons, I really don't like your user name and find it incredibly inappropriate and offensive, could you please change it?
Perhaps a Mod can let me know the rules there.

I agree with the majority of your post but come on, you could take offence with ALOT of boardsie usernames!

Wait, so he's not named after a vest?

It is unfortunate, for any piece of expensive kit there should be a min of 3 years for any sort of hardware failure. It's not like a food blender or kettle.

Agree with you here. (About the vest and the ps3!:pac:) I think it's crazy that they only give you a 1 year warranty. Is there the option of buying an extended warranty? I can't remember if I was offered one when I bought mine.

Sorry about your predicament op, but I think your only choice is to go for a refurb if your not to happy with the thought of CRI.

Ireland never signed up to this warranty extension so retailers/manufacturers aren't obliged to take back a product once it's outside of its original guarantee period which in the case of the PS3 is 12 months.

Sucks I know but there it is.

I know full well (at least I know from the previous threads) but I am only suggesting it as an argument to use on the phone. Force them into one of these 'goodwill' gestures others have managed to get.

But the more abrasive you are, the less likely they are to help and the more likely they are to put the phone down.
Think yourself lucky at 150, Gamestop charge 160 for the same refurb deal.

Theres absolutely no way that is 100% the case.

You only have to read a fraction of the posts in either of the big two big Blu-Ray of Death threads to know plenty of people have had success after a bit of a moan.

Don't think yourself lucky for anything. You can get it for 160e refurbished in the worst case scenario - everything else is a bonus.

I worked in retail and know that some people can be pricks and all but we all know well there are loads of instances where the moany customer gets their way. I am not even suggesting it as your first step - but if they are only offering you the 160e refurb option then whats the harm in trying exactly?

Get your mother or an auntie to phone up about how it belongs to their 5 year old son, worked for two mates of mine for other stuff.

ROFL:D Has it been tried with sony?

Nah, Gamestop. They were saying "It's not our problem, contact MS/Nintendo" and I told the first guy to send his ma in with his little brother, suddenly it WAS their problem. :P Then my cousin's Wii fecked up and he was on holidays so I sent my mam up with his console. :P

Whatever the rights or wrongs, or laws, or policies or anything else, the people with the least chance of getting anything sorted are people under the age of 35.

Serious LOLing here. First time for me on boards where "Yore Ma" can be used as a legitimate solution!

But your right I suppose, if I got my Mum on the other end of the phone giving out I'd give her anything she wanted.;)

That's the great thing though, I told my mate to maybe hit his brother before sending them in (half-joking) because if there's one kind of person they don't want to wind up it's a woman in her late forties with a crying 8 year old in tow. :pac:

I know how it feels, I rang up sony and they just said No...sorry cant help...Bye:mad:
I was playing CoD5 when my laser went so I rang loads of PS3 costumer help lines and none were of any help:(
So I rang up Consoles Repair Ireland and they said just drop it into us or they could get a courier to pick it up for you and with in 10-12 days it was sent back by courier fixed and ready to be played the hell out of:D...10-12 days of PS3 withdrawal is alot:)

if you do get console repairs Ireland to fix your PS3 make sure they don't stick a sticker on the top of the PS3 and on the bottom instead(the sticker is to tell who it belongs to and whats wrong with it) They also give you a 6Month guarantee.

My PS3 is about to ylod. It's been pausing and freezing a lot the parlay month. Is there any place in Ireland where I can get an extended warranty for it. Somewhere like game or gamestop. (it was bought in xtravision launch model 60gb).
