Anyone out there interested in starting a triathlon club for the midleton/youghal east cork area. I know there are clubs in Cork and Fermoy but there a bit too far for regular training, especially the swimming in Sandycove. Anyone interested can PM me and we can move it forward.

could be interested in a club if it was set up but wouldn't be either experienced in tri or setting up a club to help in that area. But a club around Youghal maybe getting the Aura Leisure center on board would be an interesting concept.

    Hi Darragh
I have sent this to you in a pm but thought i would post it here in case anyone else was interested .

Even thought is for the Cavan they may do one in Cork at a later stage ?. Anyway nice to have some information on it anyway.

Info on starting a club from 'Tri Ireland'

Try a Tri Day/ Club Formation - Cavan
    Wednesday, October 14 2009 @ 01:08 PM IST - Contributed by: TIAdmin | Views::187
20091012180816431_1.JPG Triathlon Ireland are supporting a new club formation programme and are targeting areas where there are currently no triathlon clubs. As a catalyst for starting clubs in new areas we are holding a low cost information/Try-a-Tri Day in Drumalee,Cavan on Sunday, 15th November 2009.
For further information please read on...

This 'Try-a-Tri' day will be coached by well established triathlon coaches and consist of a number of practical - swim/bike/run/transition sessions and class room based sessions. To conclude the day, there will be the opportunity to put these techniques into practice at a short pool based triathlon. The day will offer a pathway into triathlon participation and will be used to form new clubs and assist existing clubs with growth of membership.
Cost: €25 in total. This will include Associate Membership (€5)
Triathlon Ireland will provide an information pack for new clubs which will give assistance with initial development and ongoing development of the club. If you live in Cavan, Monaghan or Fermanagh and are interested in coming to a “Try-a-Tri” day on 15th November or forming a club in these areas, or any other area, then please get in touch with us by sending an email to tryatri@triathlonireland.com. If there is enough interest we may hold another Try a Tri day in the Monaghan / Fermanagh area that same weekend.
We will also continue to roll out the “Try-a-Tri” programme to other areas around the country, please check the website for announcements.

I am part of the midleton CC and there were thoughts of incorporating a tri section into the club. This is still up for vote internally, but if there is interest please let me know so that I can go to the meeting armed with numbers.

    Hey Darac,
I might be interested in joining one, but not setting it up would be a bit beyond me.

    Hey Trevor,
That sounds interesting i didn't know there was a club!
What kind of spins to you do?

    Folks,
    Membership form.doc

Just to confirm we now have a Tri club in Midleton.
Midleton CC AGM was last nite and it was voted that the club would change its name to "Midleton Cycling and Tri Club"
    Attached is the membership form.

We are in the process of building the new club web site and doing a PR launch in the local Media.

    Regards,

    Hi Trek
Great news, but can you confirm that the fee is correct at 305euro. If so can you break that down and explain. I feel its a bit high as Cork Tri Club membership is 50euro
    Regards
    Peter

I went out with Midleton cycle club twice. Never again. They just leave you..... Dont care about newbies. I dont know how they will build a club going on the way they are as no one can keep up with advanced cyclists. They need to set aside one person every sunday to go with the new people and train them up to a better cylce fit level. You meet up all right at 9am, and then once you hit the motor way, there off and your left on your own. They would not even know if you got back safely. You d be lucky if one person said hello to you. Not a nice club to be apart of, unless your an advanced cyclist.

    Tripledaz,

    Thank you for the feedback.

In response to your post. I must say I don’t agree with your comment.

We had 4 new guys yesterday. 1 stay with us until the ferry in passage (He had decided only to do 40km) and the other 3 made it all the way around. 2 flat tires and a few bike issues and we waited for everyone.

When I spoke to them, they all enjoyed the spin. As much as you can enjoy a hard 90km & everyone got home safe.

As a club it’s difficult to keep everyone happy. We do have to clubs heading out at 9.00am

We do expect new members top speak up and tell us what their fitness level is like and what experience they have on the bike.

As for “You d be lucky if one person said hello to you.” I find this very strange as we cycle in pairs and rotate up the chain every 5 -6 km so you get a chance to speak to everyone.

Please DM if you want my mobile to discuss further.

    Yours in Cycling...

Thank you for your response. I feel privilaged to have gotton so much feedback. As this is the most I have talked to someone within the Midleton Cycling group, and unfortunately it is via the web.....icon8.gif You mention you cycle in chain format, but I was not even able to keep up, ye were always a few meters ahead alright but I was never quite up there. Indeed I did speak to another new person while cycling but this person was a first timer also. We just ended up cycling ourselves. I do not wish to take this any further but I thought I d let you know as a group, how my experience was in cycling with the club and I hope you can take this a constructive critism and go forward from here and remember the newbies.... Its always hard joining a club, and even harder to stay if you feel your not being apart of one.

Not sure where you are going with "I feel privileged to have gotton so much feedback. As this is the most I have talked to someone within the Midleton Cycling group, and unfortunately it is via the web" as I did offer you the opportunity to DM me so I could give you my mobile. Maybe you feel better communicating via the WEB!!!

Your feedback is taken on board. As for "not wishing to take this any further" I think this is a good move by yourself.icon14.gif

Hope you do find a club that meets your requirements!

    Yours in cycling,
