where is the best place to buy one? online? in the UK? Ireland?

i'm not actually a student yet but i can get some college friends to buy it for me to get discount:D

i'm not a gamer or anything so don't really need it for any heavy duty work but what would the forum elders recommend?...

(also on the website it says some about getting a free ipod touch when you buy a laptop!?!?...can i avail of that too?)

The UK probably is check. Check the educational prices on the UK site versus the Irish one.

And regarding the free iPod and similar offers, you usually pay the full price and get a rebate after you send away the necessary form(s).

What college do your friends go to? A few of the big universities/ITs have the Apple on Campus programme - basically a bigger student discount (10% versus the regular 7% I think) - accessed via their college internet. See here.

If you could avail of this it would probably be as cheap as the sterling price. However when you say the UK, do you mean going up north? Because afaik the Applestore up there won't give the discount to ROI students.

And yeah, if you buy an ipod at the same time as the Mac you can get a rebate on most of its value minus the VAT. There's also a 80 euro rebate on select printers/all-in-ones.

Laptops Direct are selling into Ireland, with no additional margin on top of the GBP/EUR exchange rate.

Its the back to school offer they do every year at about this time of year, UCD get the extra apple on campus 10% discount.

Any non apple on campus gets 7% off and the same iPod rebate offer. The iPod rebate offer ends on the 6th September.

Afaik this is only the 2nd year that Apple given us the iPod rebate. Before that it was only for U.S. customers. We got it pretty late last year as well, around September.
