..do some decent bikes still come in alu such as this one which i love

    http://www.canyon.com/_en/roadbikes/bike.html?b=825

is this just far too much to pay for a non carbon bike?

depends on the grade of aluminium.

Some people just prefer, steel frames or aluminium frames or carbon frames.

Also carbon can depend on weave quality or if its just carbon weaved onto aluminium. So some carbon may be cheaper but it may not be better.

    similar carbon one: http://www.canyon.com/_en/roadbikes/specs.html?b=850

weightwise there isnt much in it. Also with aluminium you dont have to worry about bumps and chips etc.

I have the canyon ultimate AL 9.0.
All I can say is that i think its a superb bike.
    The components are quality.
The bike is very light, stiff and responsive + climbs great.
Most say the big advantage of carbon is comfort(ability to absorb road noise) I find the AL 9.0 ride very confortable.
Its all about opinions but I would be very suprised if you were dissapointed with the canyon.
If you do a search you will find many carbon v aliminium v steel v titanium debates.

I've been quite tempted by the aluminium Cervelo S1 (formerly Soloist Team I think). Although it's not at the top of my wishlist, in my dream world I'd use it as a hack race bike. :)

It's lighter than many carbon bikes and apparently very fast.

If you want it, buy it. :pac:
