Cool wedding cars?

I was in a hotel yesterday where a wedding happened to be on, and the guests of honour showed up in a Daimler DS420. As a wedding car, the DS420 is a massive cliché, and therefore desperately uncool. This got me thinking: what would make a really cool wedding car?

The first rule is that anything by Rolls-Royce or Daimler is out, as is anything from the Twenties. The car should have a certain amount of bling, to make a suitably grand entrance; but should also be interesting enough that the petrolheads on the guest list would sit up and take notice. Lastly, it should be practical enough for the guests of honour to enter and exit it in a reasonably civilised manner. (This unfortunately rules out the new Aston Martin Rapide). So what do we think?

Here's a couple to get the ball rolling:

I once brought the Bride and Groom to and from the ceremony in my 7. They were on a budget and it was done as a favour, but with the white ribbons running down the bonnet it did attract some attention and put that priceless smile on my face!

I was at a wedding a few years ago where the wedding car was a Mk2 Jaguar which would fit the bill

We (My wife and I) had a black DS for my wedding thanks to a boards member helping me source one. You should see the phono's of the DS in the album. It looked great!

    W116 merc (mine!!) :D

Every bit as practical as the W126 but without all the plastic :-) and way classier looking.

I have already told my Girls they are NOT having one of my cars for their weddings......it will be a large black Rolls or similar .The object of the exercise is to make the BRIDE the centre of attention and a fancy vehicle and all the other ridiculous modern bits and bobs deemed necessary detract from this.

At the very most, I would tolerate the groom and Best Man turning up in a Classic PROVIDED it was their own rather than hired.

Whether you spend nothing or tens of thou on a wedding will make no difference to the couples memory of a great day if its done right.

It even has the bouquet up front!

The waterbed could come in useful too, now that I think about it.

I drove to my wedding in my old Fiat.

For the actual wedding car I would have liked something like this:

    Mercedes-Benz_6-9_450_SEL_1979_ca-mm-2008_1SE0078.jpg

But I went with what the missis wanted for her day and all that.

Lads (and I'm assuming most of the posters on this thread are lads),

Ye're missing the point. Women want something that will look good in the photos BUT they'll be able to get the dress into as well without showing off the garter etc to all and sundry. That kicks to touch a lot of the nice cars out there and there's no room in the back of a Jaguar Mk2 and a Citroen DS sits too low. Hence I've got 2 Daimler DS420s. There's tons of room in the back and there's pop-up seats for the bridesmaids as well. I'm 6'1" and I can stretch out and not touch the back of the driver's seat. Rollers and Bentleys may have the name but the DS420 is more practical.

Most of the couples that view my cars aren't petrolheads and when the bride-to-be asks the future groom what he thinks, the usual answer is "whatever you think yourself"!!!

Here's one, sorry it's a little blurred, but you hopefully get the idea.

BTW, hiring a classic does not take attension away from the bride. Most guests are inside the church when she arrives and the couple leave together. At that stage the guests have all seen "the dress" / flowers etc. The car at that stage is largely irrelevant. A nice classic can however enhance the occasion/photos. We didn't pretend to be landed gentry / footballers hence the lack of a Rolls / Daimler etc.
I would have driven my P6 but considering my wife thinks its ugly...I'd thought better of it.

Be that as it may, I think it is you who is missing the point. This thread is titled cool wedding cars, not practical ones.

Hopefully without getting too far off topic.
IMO weddings can be whatever a couple wish them to be. If what they think is "cool" etc it up to them. If it comes across as tasteless, so be it. We had no wedding planner etc. We like to think our wedding was "cool", well for us it was anyway. It was in the church my wife made her communion in a beautiful part of the country, we had a Jazz band and a classic movie themed cake (it's meant a celebration too) not just a public/religious witnessed ceremony. The old citroen whisked my bride to the church as it fit the scale and location. I didn't think it was too crass. Our marriage vows remained traditional as we thought that was the important part. Traditional does not mean it can't be "cool".

I didn't mean this thread to be toooo serious/realsitic, after all DS420's are popular with good reason. Think of it more as a potential Top Gear Challenge and you'll get the idea. :D

great idea for a thread as i have to do this research for myself for next year..the future missus loves classic mustangs but getting in and out in a wedding dress will cause issues she thinks

What you want is suicide doors. I know someone who got married last year who used this as a wedding car. Very easy for the bride to get in and out of and they were able to get the top down after the ceremony and take loads of pictures with the wedding party inside it. The bride was delighted, which is the most important thing after all.
