I don't know anything about Rothar - though from their web-site they come across as bike-lovers and I'd say they're probably worth checking out for second hand commuting bikes.

My alarm bells rang when you mentioned buying from Phibsboro as I only knew of the woman who sells bikes of very dubious origin from her house on the NCR (just next to Avondale Road) and I'd definitely advise not going there. It's a similar set-up to the outfit at the Capel St. end of Parnell St.

Keep meaning to check it out and bring some old bikes down but never get time on a sat. If you go down let us know.

I've donated some old bikes there and bought some small bits and pieces from time to time. It's a nice wee shop and they're not in it to get rich quick so you can trust their advice because they're not trying to push a sale all the time like in some shops.

All the bikes they sell are "pre-loved" and re-conditioned so there's nothing new and shiny with electronic gearing and carbon wheels but there are some seriously nice older bikes from time to time and the prices are reasonable. I would reccommend it if you're looking for a commuter or you're just on a budget and trying to get started on the bike.
