Based in Dunlaoghaire, I wanted to know where the nearest cricket club would be, also how long does a game take.
Is there anyone who can advise on how to get started.
Is the gear expensive etc etc,

    Help appreciated

personally i'd recommend sandyford in marlay park, nice bunch of lads and very accomodating to new players. http://www.sandyfordcc.org go to the forums section register and ask them they train tuesday and thursday i think

As somebody who took up the sport this year and decided on Sandyford Id second Drogs opinion (even if he does play for Rush) :p

Very friendly bunch who have really helped me along. Im having an excellent time of it very enjoyable

And what a fine addition you've been to the ranks! See you at the semi-final in Merrion tonight.

Also considering playing just wondering how much I would expect to pay for gear. I live in Balrothery so I guess North County would be the logical choice.

Anyone on this forum from out that neck of the woods?

Bat 200 euros, whites 50 euros, gloves 20 euros, pads 20-30 euros, helmet 45 euros, thigh pad 20 euros, special area specific protective equipment 10 euros. Of these only the whites and the area specific equipment are all that are necessary to start with. Most people will be happy to lend you the batting gear.

North County are you local club but you also have Balbriggan, The Hills and my club Rush pretty nearby. Balbriggan are very strong, they only have two teams. North county's 5th team are very strong, mostly made up of very promising youngsters, I don't now much about the hills 5ths I haven't played them in a while.

At Rush we are always happy to welcome players who are new to the game. We have four teams entered in the league this year. We train on friday nights at about 6:30, the ground is on the skerries road on your right about half an mile before you get to the town. A friend of mine took up the game this year and was doing pretty well before he injured himself playing a completely different sport. he plans to some back next year though.

North county Dublin has always been a hotbed of cricket. You have the North County Cricket Club on your doorstep (it was formed when Balrothery merged with Man'o'War about 10 years ago). Check them out.
