    Hi All,

I'm no longer a full member of a club but I would like to join a country club (anywhere very cheap) just to get a handicap.

    Can anyone recommend anywhere?

    Thanks.

I believe the following can help you maybe need to be full member but I believe rates are reasonable.

    Kilrush, Slievenamon, Abbyfeale, Rathbane, Moate.

Try any of these. Not sure but at least one is €250 full membership if you live a distance of more than 60miles so you should be covered.

I'm a member of Ballaghaderreen GC in Roscommon. It is less than a 2 hr drive from the M50. Full distance membership for a year is 200 Euro. After that all u pay is competition entry fees. It is a 9 hole course and while not of 'great' quality it is grand if all u want is a handicap. 3 cards will do that for u.

Open week is coming up too if u wanna do a reckie beforehand.

That has to be bull***t........ a Gui Handicap is a Gui Handicap!!
It is possibly down to the lack of "snob" factor in the club that gets these rumours going..... and yes, I am a distance member!!
I am sure there are some "bandits" that join the likes of Slievenamon etc and play badly in their 3 rounds to pot hunt, but for people like myself that are learning the game and don't have the time or money to commit to a local (expensive??) club it suits just fine!:D

Distance membership is €180 and if you want insurance it is another €20.... total €200.
I have just renewed my membership and have had no problems in using my GUI handicap to enter open competitions! I have played in:
Roundwood,Delgany, South County and a few others and have had no problem!

calling it a course is an insult to an actual course

I once nearly disapeared into the bog when playing from the rough!!

Slievenamon are doing distance membership, and are probably the cheapest around for it.
Unfortunately, a lot of members left last year, because the course is apparently falling by the way side.
I'm a joe soap myself, but snobbery is a common factor in all golf clubs, no matter where you go.

I'm a member in Rathbane and I wasn't aware there was country membership there ...
