What's the story with the pharmacies not dispensing to medical card patients?

Apologies if this is common knowledge. But I'm on oz, so have just seen bits and pieces about this.

    What's happening? And why?

The media have been selling it as greedy pharmacists. I assume that's bollocks, and it involves being shafted by the HSE in some way.

Any pharmacists care to elaborate? Tell us the real story.

The HSE have unilaterally decided to cut the fees paid to Pharmacies for dealing with the schemes (Medical Card, DPS, Long Term illness etc) by 36%. The Pharmacist Union's members are withdrawing from the schemes in protest.
