    Howdy,

I'm looking into starting my own jobsite, however I don't want to pay a developer serious cash to get the ball rolling. I spoke to a guy in www.greenjobs.ie who was useful but what i really want to know is if anyone is aware of a course out there where they teach exactly how to build jobsites...can't seem to find one online.

You already have this posted on the web design forum where you are more likely to get an answer, no real need to post it here aswell.

Unless you were going to redefine the genre somehow i would advise against it. That market is sown up completly by the big boys, with massive budgets. You will spent a few grand on another job clone and then have to spend so much money advertising it. I created one for my 4th year project, was pretty crap but i must have looked at a million clones and there all the same pretty much. The only new job site that will survive if it has a lot of money behind it or offers something new that would be great for the market.

Agree with Atlas_IRL....There are too many jobsites at the moment and unless you have serious marketing cash to take on the likes of Monster, Jobs.ie etc then I thinkg you are flogging a dead horse.

Alternatively though, It could be a runner if you are offering something different or trying to hit a niche market. A new site named worky.com was launched last month that is different to the regular jobsites. A kind of a Socail Networking Jobs site.

A niche market is the way, focus all attention of a narrow band of customers who would find your website important & bridge out from there.

An idea would to use Twitter with Jobs or seeking jobs, allowing your members abit of social networking with the instant notes of Twitter and create groups for different job seekers who could help each other out as well prepare for interviews as some will be attentioning the same job positions. Social networking job sites has started recently, it is only a matter of time before Twitter job sites or part intergrated will appear.

The time, energy and cost of setting up a jobsite is considerable, considering it has to be better than the numerous incumbents. Then the marketing budget required is very large. Lastly there are not that many jobs out there at the moment so your revenue stream is very limited and they will stick with the big boys with most resumes...in short I advise you to forget about it. Even the greenjobs.ie was not a success except for the fact that their UK site pulled them through. The key point is the revenue stream and it will VERY HARD to get any money out of companies/recruiters to advertise on your site.

BTW, I bet that worky.com will fail even with a large budget for marketing.

How many jobsites and career sites are there out there already...monster, irishjobs, recruitireland, careerjet, loadzajobs, linkedin, facebook etc...!

There are loads of 'job site' scripts, just buy one of those:
