What would be the chances of organising a concert in the City Centre -
possibly The Saw Doctors or Aslan --- open air - end of August. ANY OPINIONS?
also - anyone prepared to help organise one for next year in RSC - like Elton John in Thomand Park or the ones in Kilkenny.
We have a great venue in the RSC - it should be used to full capacity for gigs like this

So you have 8 weeks to organise a concert. RSC capacity 3100, Thomond Park 26000. Big difference.

No harm in trying to get The Blizzards or The Coronas.

Would you not try and do an electronic dance act, could work out a lot cheaper..........you'd probably only have to pay for the main act, and get local lads to do the warm up slots...they'd only be grateful of a gig!

RSC has a seated capacity of 3,100 ---but cover the pitch and running track --- whats the capacity then?

I think this is a great idea op. Killarney have a summer fest every year and they use Fitzgerald stadium. I was at one of their concerts there and there were 26,000 people there that night. It brings great income for the businesses in the town both accomodation and pubs/clubs.

I'd guess an open air gig in town would be very difficult logistally(sp?) but a gig in the rsc sounds like a good idea, I'd be up for getting involved if you decide to go ahead.

The Saw Doctors are great craic. They are playing in 2 weeks time in New Ross for FREE in an open air concert at the annual JFK Dunbrody Festival.

Does anyone remember that Witnness at the time was touted for the Tramore Race Course?

you know that would be an idea for further down the line if say we really made a go of it and it turned out to be a success all you'd need is one fairly well kown act imo and surely other good ones would follow suit.

Great idea OP, you seem to have a few on here that would help. My fee is 12% of gross profit :)

There's a lot to consider too. Insurance, hospitality, accommodation, logistics etc. I can get a handle on press releases etc, but it's also down to knowing people in the music industry.

ah ya of course, jesus i'd say its a nightmare tbh. Insurance in particular beinb the biggest prob i'd imagine

What a fantastic idea! It seems that our City Council don't like to push themselves in promoting our City. I think OP you would have a lot of support.

Put it out there to the public and force the City Council to support it by way of insurance, logistics etc.

Well done. Keep the good ideas coming!!!!!!!!!!!!

Last I heard, no one in the City Council has had a successful career in music promotion.

MCD and Aiken Promotions do all the promotion ---
City Council need to "back" it -
and then a door share on ticket sales -
so - if handled correctly - City Council can actually make money from it

I'm sure if we came up with a good idea the council would say "Ya, that would work. Got my backing" but dont expect much, if any, funding during these times. Id much prefer it was given to the county council to fix the god damn tramore road :P

They were in negotiations with u2 about 5 years ago too

And remember the Fléadh Mór? Anyone remember the line up for that?

I remember Bob Dylan I think and possibly Jerry Lee Lewis. Apart from that all my time was spent unconsious in the Hari Krishna tent sleeping off the beer !

Great idea, and would love to help out in some way if I'm available.

However, I can't see planning permission being given for the RSC due to parking and noise pollution issues. The RSC pitch is also used during the summer for football and is bad enough without having a concert on it.

Maybe an alternative solution would be the area behind The Sweep in Kilmeaden? It was used a long time ago for the Freewheelers weekend, and with the new road opening, that village would be dying for some business.

Regarding this summer, why not attempt to get the Thrill on the Hill going again?

You could also do something to rival the Indiependence that is held in Mitchelstown.

I think you've got a lot of support here foxylad and I'll happily add my name to that list. I have no idea just how difficult something like this would be to organise though. I'd imagine there's a lot to go into it.

But the lads at Spraoi might be able to give a general guide seeing as they've been doing similar stuff for years now?
