Italian sites are reporting that Sky and ESPN have acquired the SPL rights, Sky to show all the Celtic-Rangers games with the remainder (56 games) on ESPN. The price paid for the rights is being quoted at 20 million quid.
    Can anyone confirm?

Well, they have jointly bid on them and I can't imagine anyone else matching their bids.

English Premier League details announced £9 per month for Sky Sports subscribers £12 for non subscribers

The US company purchased the rights for 46 live games when the British arm of broadcaster Setanta went into administration a month ago.

From 3 August, the new channel will offer top-flight football alongside international sports and a wide-range of premium US sports previously provided on ESPN America, which will be integrated in the UK into the new channel.

It will be made available in both standard and high definition, making the UK-based channel the firm's first HD offering in Europe.

As part of the new arrangement, Sky will retail ESPN to both its residential and commercial customers and it will be available on a premium subscription basis to all Sky homes.

This means that all live Barclays Premier League matches will be available in HD to Sky homes.

Sky has confirmed that Sky Sports subscribers will be able to get ESPN for £9 per month while other Sky customers will be able to subscribe from £12 per month.

Sky Sports will produce its Premier League matches, but the coverage will use dedicated ESPN graphics and analysis, although the US broadcaster plans to create original studio shows to support football and other sports coverage.

My guess is €12 for Sky subscribers and €16 for Sky Sports subscribers.

So NO ESPN unless you are already a SKY Subscriber and have an account with SKY??

You cant hook up with them in the same way you did Setanta, namely an old retired SKY box.??

The English prices said £12 for NON subscribers. Surely that would mean it wouild be the same as Setanta here. i.e. if you have a cancelled sky sub you could then subscribe to ESPN separately??

That is £12 for non Sky Sports subscribers. No mention of non Sky subscribers

Sorry,I took the info from the first line of Cupthehands post.

Just checked digitalspy. Looks like all the Setanta bashers over there are regretting their demise. The prices from ESPN though do look very steep for what they will offer. If the Sky sterling/euro exchange rate is used here we are in big trouble.

Thats of course if ESPN definately have the rights here? If so, I reckon it will be time to cancel my Setanta sub, unless they cancel it for me :-((((

Do you know if ESPN's live English Premier League games will be available in Ireland or will Setanta still be broadcasting these games?
