Partition for XP

Have to use a few programs in XP, so a partition is required.

I have all the install disks and what not.

I have one question, how big should I make the partition?

I'll only need to use these programs now and again, nothing involving office or anything though.

You don't necessarily need a designated partition.
If you only run a few programs you could use virtualization software to run your Windows programs from within OS X.
It is the most flexible and elegant solution in most cases.

Some apps that need all the horsepower of your system (games, advanced graphics/engineering sw) might perform poorly but for most apps it's more than enough.

What software is it that you need Windows for?

Eh configuring a server, so eh I can download loads and loads of copies of open office really fast.......

ie I know no to ask for help/direction :)

It's just that I have a guide for the set up using some specific windows tools, and I really dont know what I'm at so I'd rather follow a guide religiously. And this guide tells me to use certain programs.

I think I have it sorted.
