Edge Injured

F4WOnline.com is reporting that Edge suffered what is believed to be a torn achilles tendon in a house show match with Jeff Hardy last night

They were a minute into the match, Edge put his foot down wrong and the EMTs had to treat him. He apologised to the fans

WWE are looking at footage from his match with Khali on Smackdown to see if there's a spot that they can pretend was the time that he got injured so that they can get the tag titles off of him and onto
    Rhodes and DiBiase

Achilles injuries can take around six months to heal I think

It seems that I may have been conservative in that remark. A lot of recoveries can take at least a year from what I've just read. It's the sort of injury that has ended many athletes' careers

    :(:(:(
He does seem to pick up injuries doesn’t he? It will be interesting to see how the WWE handle this. The mini draft was done a week to early! Jeff maybe gone and Edge been injured leaves Smackdown lacking serious star power. I wonder will we see someone from raw sent over to fill the gap?
He and Jericho losing the belts to the Orton clones does nothing for me at all.

Vince will be on the iphone to Taker.

I would be happy if they put someone else with Jericho. Dolph? or maybe he could mentor the hart dynasty and they could become champs.

I would like them to at least use the injury as a way of furthering somones career rather than throwing onto legacy just because they are there.

    Aw noes.

This is what they get for trying Rated RKO v.2.
It was always destined to fail..

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 22,971 Mod ✭✭✭✭Bounty Hunter

i do wonder as suggested if this will hasten Takers return, although i hope not as itl be hard enough to keep him fully away from the ME scene and right now CM Punk has to shine there. Hopefully more SD talent get a push due to this, like maybe Morrison feuding with Jericho although i guess more likely atleast temporarily is Jericho finding another heel tag partner to challenge Legacy at NOC after Legacy take the belts.

good point, they have already hinted to it! im really dissapointed and hope its not as bad as first seemed!

do you think they could keep edge on as a manager/figurehead for a while (after surgery if needed) he would be a great help to the hart dynasty...coming from the dungeon himself! which could push and elevate them further!

Sucks, was liking the E & J tag team :(

Would wonder if Legacy would become champs now though, especially when it seems DiBiase's turn could come soon enough.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,600 ✭✭✭✭CMpunked

I expect Edge to return with a face turn.

You heard it here first guys ;)

But why not have him teaming with Christian?
Or because Edge is gone now will Jericho just go back to SD to feud with Finlay and act as if none of this ever happened?

If they wanted a face turn for Edge, they could set up a Rated Y2J vs Legacy match, and have Edge found beaten up and needing to go to hospital just before it.

Jehrico then gets a new partner (Ziggler), and when Edge comes back he could go after whomever WWE decide to say was his attacker(s). It could even bring Christian back in a tag team with him as his back up against the attackers if it were a tag team.

Sure it is a storyline that they have used many many times, the most recent being in the Hardy vs Hardy storyline, but they assume fans have no memory of past storylines anyway so why not?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,054 ✭✭✭D.Q

i cant actually stress enough how disappointing this is.

i said it in another thread, i was genuinely excited about Rated Y2J. Its an awful pity.

That said, it is a very good time to use jericho. He has the potential now to elevate other superstars, like J.M or Ziggler, as well as drag other people into a storyline. If carried out correctly, Edfge's injury could be a blessing in disguise.

    Big If though.

Ah shite, was really looking forward to rated Y2J and even had a bit of hope they could help bring some legitimacy back to the tag team division, what lousy timing. Here's hoping it's not a career ender, that can be a really nasty injury afaik

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 15,827 Mod ✭✭✭✭Furious-Red

PWInsider.com is now reporting that the official diagnosis for Edge’s ankle injury is indeed a torn Achilles tendon and could potentially keep him out of the ring until January 2010 depending on the severity.

Edge will need at least a month just to start healing the injury and depending on the severity of it, he could choose surgery to reattatch the Achilles tendon or he could immobilize the ankle for a month and let it heal followed by rehabilitation.
    :(

this thread should go in "Dublin bands who were good at one stage but are now annoying croke park residents". the edge a yes man for Bono!

Possibly Edge to return earlier than expected and come in as no 30 in the RR and stun everyone by winning it!

Cos you know, thats never been done before :p

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 18,669 Mod ✭✭✭✭DM_7

Maybe they should bring Christian in for Edge. Since the champs can appear on any brand and Smackdown is taped with ECW it could work. Christian could turn himself heel in about 10 seconds if he wanted too.

I would be happy if it was Dolph but Dolph is doing okay on his own and they will be able to follow on with getting him a run as a singles guy and maybe have a run as Intercontinental Champ.

Christian and Jericho back together would make me watch :pac: I don't see it happening though. I think they'll just put Jericho back in singles competition and continue to ignore the tag division

    Sadly your probably right.

Taker could be rushed back and pushed straight towards Jericho. Chris has the mic skills to avoid them needing to face each other in the ring too often and keep a feud going without taker needing to be overly active.

well this is CM Punk's big push, hes being slowly turned heel and being given more and more mic time, he will go over fan favourite Jeff to solidify his main event heel status. but who knows as you say should Jeff had said ill sign a new contract if you give me the belt (not that he would) the maybe but this is CM Punks storyline your seing on SD not Jeffs

now kinda back on topic... Edge probably wouldent have been next in line for a title match anyway hense him being put with Jericho in the tag division. Edge is a heel (although kinda a tweener who will prob return face) so also wouldent have made sense against the newly turned heel Punk. Instead id have imagined that after a short run as unified tag champs Edge and Jericho would probable have feuded. Whilst Punk would go on from Jeff (who they would prob get another ppv out of after NOC if they wanted vs Punk) to perhaps the one guy thats considerd a bigger face than Jeff in terms of crowd reaction, that being a returning Undertaker

Bit of a bummer that Edge is injured. I think I read a report somewhere of him being out for maybe a year. Hard to believe that it's only July and we can already speculate that he might miss Wrestlemania. I was looking forward to seeing him in Dublin in November. I think he's one of the few current guys that I haven't seen live who I want to see. Him and Jeff Hardy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,194 ✭✭✭✭Penn

I think the only upshot to Edge being injured will be his comeback, hopefully as a face. Trying to turn him from cocky, arrogant, psychotic heel to a face was never going to be easy. And if not done right, would have been a shambles. Now he can come back as a face straight away, say he took things for granted, injury made him realise things etc.

That is if he comes back. As has been said before, very serious injury

Now he can come back as a face straight away, say he took things for granted, injury made him realise things etc.

I actually think that would fail. Edge succeeding as a face would work best if he became a face ala Austin. Still being able to do heelish things but getting cheered for them. Normal babyface Edge is just boring and wouldn't go down well.

It's too late now but when Punk won the title I thought it was the perfect time to turn Edge face They could have done it slowly, essentially copying the blueprint left by Hart and Austin in 96-97. It would have elevated both guys and could have ended with a similar sort of double turn as the one at Wrestlemania 13

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 937 ✭✭✭michael.etc...

I totally agree with the notion that to turn babyface, he needs to have an "edge", (no pun intended).

A bland, honorable babyface who apologizes for his past mistakes would be absolutely horrible. I wouldn't pattern him after Austin either though, as past attempts to push people in the role unnaturally, have generally failed (HHH being a prime example). But he could absolutely come out through the crowd as he used to, and his opportunistic character could be treated as a positive. He could be the one outsmarting people, and his humour could totally appeal to the same age group whom Randy orton is clearly cheered by.
Either way, they'll have to try a babyface turn at some point, to keep the lineups fresh next year.

Some are saying it could be Jericho v Taker at WM next year.

So what if taker will be super over (as always) and jericho in top form as the heel.
Edge returns and tells Jericho he wants to help him seeing as he kinda left him short of the tag titles etc etc.

Edge just easily turns on jericho saying that it was jerichos fault that edge got injured and how he never showed any remorse for when he got put on the sidelines.

Of course, this will only work if Jericho comes out when he has to forfit the titles bashing edge. Doing the whole "If Edge was as much of a righteous man as i am i would never have been left to having to give my championships up...."

It would be a nice angle, and to be honest i dislike when they put two mega heels together for a tag team, because it never last long these days.

I would rather see a jericho/Edge fued insted.

WWE.COM is reporting that Edge underwent surgery yesterday Tuesday in Birmingham, Alabama to repair the torn Achilles heel tendon he suffered at a house show this past weekend.

How long is he expected to be out?

My brother ruptured his Achilles tendon snowboarding once upon a time and was back in action (football, running, etc.) in just over 6 months so that should be ok for a professional athlete with the best medical care available.

The good thing about Edge is that he really does not need to wrestle that much to keep his heat as he is so good on the mic.

The funny thing is that pro athletes' injuries often take longer to heal than laymen's injuries, even when they're meant to be the same injury.

I wonder what they will do with the tag belts now. Seeing Edge is injured, I doubt Jericho can hold onto them by himself.
