Ikea Pricing

So Ikea are opening in 3 weeks - yee haw many say.

They claim their pricing policy will be as per local market conditions - I just hope they take into account their prices in the UK and don't apply their German prices here.

You can download their UK / German / french catalogues from the relevant country sites. Some goods are priced in the uK at about the same or even more than the prices in germany, but its very few.

The worst example I have seeen in looking at first 20 pages is a suite for £799 uk & €1399 germany, €1250 France. Kitchen trolley £99 uk €169 germany, €119 France.

If Ikea have the types of price differences of uk / germany between Belfast & Dublin then the negative publicity will be deafening.

here's hoping it won't be as bad as UK / Germany differences and will be even better than Uk / France pricing.

    Poor Germans!

They'll price at whatever the market will bear.

The UK is in for a time of inflation due to the low value of sterling (higher cost on imported goods), and quantiative easing.

Why create a thread with this title in Rip-off Ireland based on prices in Germany, France and the UK coupled with the fact that the store isn't even open yet ?

was bored waiting for rain to clear and wanted to stir things up:D

Was looking thorugh IKEA catalogues & noticed that they had amazingly different prices for different markets and know that they will be compared very quickly with their prices in belfast. Greta publicity if prices are similar and the usual cry of rip-of if not!

I also know many stores follow whats written on web forums. - So Ikea, if your looking, we're watching!:pac:

I think it might just be you who's watching darc. :)
I suspect the vast majority of people will just be thrilled that Ikea are in Dublin now and won't pay too much attention/won't care about the pricing in Belfast.

Ikea have already said they're going to charge more here than they do in Belfast

which is reasonable, as the cost of doing business is higher here.

At the expense of lower quality of life I might add.

Higher postage costs sending the catalogue from the UK to Ireland would probably explain the difference.
