What would happen? (RAID)

Hi, I have a PC that I received that was configured with two physical hard drives (SATA) in a RAID mirror configuration. One of the hard disks died so I proceeded to remove it and have since aquired a new hard disk to replace it with. When I removed the faulty drive my bios status screen upon boot warns saying that one of the disks is missing or something, but the machine starts up and works perfectly off the other drive.

So now here I am with a new drive and I'm afraid to just put it in to the machine because I'm worried that by doing so the machine will go to start up and automatically wipe the existing hard drive contents to sync up with the empty drive. Or will the new drive sync up with the exist drive that has my stuff on it? (which would be ideal)

I really can't afford to lose the contents of the drive I have. Is there any chance this will happen if I just pop the replacement drive in?

Just pop in the new drive & away you go. That's the whole idea of a mirror raid.
