    Hi,
I inherited about 5 round bales of hay when i moved to my house 4 years ago, they've been under a tarpaulin ever since.
I want to use the area where th ebales are, and want to get rid of the hay.
Any ideas on getting rid of them. I was thinking about approaching some of the composting sites.
    Cheers.

Just one thing - could turn into a bigger sentence. We got "old" hay last year, it wasn't the best quality as the guy told us, but sold it to us cheaper. What we didn't know about was there was toxoplasmosis on it, and we ended up losing a fortune, by trying to save some money. It was heartbreaking going around picking up dead kids, majorit - female, and as a follow on, we ended up losing some females. Anyone who knows anything about dairy goats will realize that is a big loss. Toxoplasmosis comes from cats yes, wasn't our cats, as the goats we had at home at the time were not effected, just the ones at the rented property. BUT Toxo does not come into effect till the cat has EATEN the rodent, Rodent is the carrier, but doesn't infect anything till it has passed through digestive system. so it is advisable to try and make sure the cat doesn't eat the rodents, and that the cat doesnt eat raw meat, and make sure it doesn't dirty the hay. It's not the cats fault, just nature. So whatever you do with the old hay - make sure there are not any cats, etc nesting in it.

I know its sounds funny, but if it were dead calves, or lambs, or foals, would it? Remember Toxoplasmosis, Coccidiousis is not just relegated to goats. So excuse me if I found no humour in that. Same as TB is not just for bovines anymore. Sheep, goats, pigs, cattle humans, etc get the bovine form .

We are behind on our "start up" because of it. Coccidiousis first year, and last year toxo.
