Has anyone who has played this links course in Clare any tips on how to perform well here.?

It looks like a wonderful and enjoyable course and I'm really looking forward to playing there.

I'll be hitting Lahinch this summer and would appreciate all the advice I can get - I'll need it!

    Thanks.

Ok I'll waste your time as I haven't played it. It looks a lovely course. All I'll say is to play it like other links courses.

Start of by going to the putting green and spending 30 minutes there. If the putting green is like the real course then it will get you used to the fast greens (I'm assuming they'll be fast).

Links courses are like target golf. You've got to be in the right position and stay away from bunkers (the bunkers can be magnetic as balls seemed to be gathered in from miles away).

Pick a spot to aim at when driving. Don't just blast away.

Unless the greens have been watered you'll probably find that you have to take one or two clubs less and hit the front or even in front of the greens.

If it's windy then it's important to keep the ball low.

Don't be afraid to take your putter from yards of the green.

When chipping you'll have to hit the ball softer than normal and the ball will take more borrow than you think.

If you are close to the green then walk up and look at the slopes. If you hit the ball to the wrong place then it can end up off the green if it catches a slope.

    Anyway those are my thoughts.

    Oh and enjoy.

My First tip to you is to enjoy your day, its a great links. It really depends on the weather! If its fine and calm it will be a easier to play and enjoy imho. If its windy and raining its a difficult golf course which will demand alot of feel shots and by that i mean it could be 100 yards to the green and be a six iron or 150 yards out with a pw / 9 iron. Off the fairway its going to be a difficult shot so hitting the fairway is key regardless of the distance you have left to the green. Play smart golf and try not to take too much on by that I mean play within yourself and to your strenghts. I enjoyed my golf there and I think you will too and a bonus is the 19th which has great food and a super pint to discuss your round with your friends. Enjoy yourself and good luck

as loft says enjoy its agreat course not v long so if you can hit a good 5 wood or long iron it will set you up on quite a few holes, keeping it on the fairway is generally most important and the ball will run out
short par fours leave the driver in the bag
a lot depends on conditions, last time i played beautiful for 1st 7-8
got lashed on for 2-3 dried up for the next few in wind and finished in calm breeze
    fantastic track
up the right off the first +1/2 a club into elevated green;)
    enjoy the 5th:D

Thanks for all the advice guys. Can't wait to get out there and play now. Hopefully the weather will be ok because I know it can get pretty windy in the West.

Presume its the old course? If you a straight hitter with all clubs you will be fine. If you hit it all over the place bring loads of balls. Further out the course you go the more severe the rough is. Played there twice recently and did not break 28pts. Lost a ball on the 5th a par 3 and I hit what I thought was a great shot to heart of green. As said above some short holes but some classic blind shots as well.

I'm really looking forward to playing the famous 5th Screed. Firing at the white stone. Phil Mickelson said it's his favourite hole outside the US which is pretty high praise considering all the great courses he's played worldwide.
