iPhone wont switch between 3G and GPRS on Three

    Hey guys,

I have an unlocked iphone and have been using it on 3. It works perfectly on 3G network and also on the GPRS.

The problem starts when 3G is not available or if I want to change It from 3G to GPRS (I use BeejiveIM a lot, so I often change to GPRS so the battery wont dry out in a few hours). If I use the 3G on/off switch in Network Settings, the phone will pick up the 3 network, but GPRS indicator won't come up on the phone, then I have to look up all the carriers and manually pick the 3 GPRS network, which takes about 1-2 minutes each time... This is the same on the other way around, If I want to go back to 3G, I have to pick the 3 (3G) network manually... Now, I can easily switch between 3G/GPRS/EDGE on the other carriers using the 3G on/off in Network Settings.

    Has anybody come across this?

I have the same problem here and have since using Three in the iPhone.

I really do not think there is a way around it.

One thing to note is, if you have a jailbroken handset you can install sbsettings, which gives you instant access to turning 3G on/off, no more messing in the menu and waiting for settings to load.

Thanks, but the problem is, if I go into Network Settings, switch off "3G", It will drop the connection then logs back to normal GSM, BUT It wont log back to the GPRS/EDGE automatically so I have no Internet, unless I go to settings and switch carrier manually... On my meteor sim, If I switch off 3G it will automatically go into edge or gprs and works, but not with Three...

Three have no GSM network so they have a roaming agreement with Vodafone. They have no data roaming agreement with Vodafone so the most data you'll get out of a "2G signal" is My3 or MMS. It's one of the biggest turn offs of 3 to me as I like to have data everywhere. But anyway hope that helps. By the sound of things your problem could also be caused by the fact that they're literally different networks.
