you all might have heard of this website but I thought I'd mention it anyway. Shelly is quite filled with the aul' hate:
Highlights of ten ways to spot an atheist:
    (2) They use long words.
As we have now learned Atheists prefer to rely on so-called logic and intelligence rather than good old fashioned gut instinct and religion. This manifests itself in conversation by their using complicated sentences and talking what my plain talking pastor likes to term “bull.” If you meet someone who you suspect of being cleverer than you, they may be an Atheist. Exercise caution.

    (3)Bad posture.
As my Great Uncle Marty used to say, most liberals could do with a spell in the army to bash some sense into them and stop them being such pinko saps. Nowhere is this more true than of atheists who are so far from discipline and the love of God that they can not even stand up straight and walk tall.

    (6)They are constantly after sex.
Atheists do not believe in Biblical morality, nor monogamy. In fact, the creed of Atheism is often used as an excuse to view sick porn on the internet and have debauched romping sex outside marriage. If you meet an Atheist, sooner or later he/she will make a crude suggestion to you. Ignore it.

    (7)Laughing at funerals.
Like Satan, Atheists like to laugh at funerals. It’s disgusting.

    (10)Looks like a monkey.
Okay, this one isn’t necessarily true, but think about it. Atheists are actually convinced that we are descended from apes. Isn’t that just crazy??!?!! Thank God only 28% of Americans agree with them.

And god's hit list for lifestyle choices:
    1. Gays
    2. Liberals
    3. Abortionists
    4. Animal Rights People
    5. Environmentalists
    6. Muzlims
    7. Vegetarians/Vegans
    8. Pedophiles
    9. “Global Warming/Cooling” Believers
    10. Linux users
    11. “Purpose Driven” churches
    12. Mormons
    13. Germans
    14. Government school teachers
    15. The anti-smoking lobby
    16. College Professors
    17. Poets
    18. Hybrid Cars

The linux users one is new on me. Does anyone know if these people serious? It can be very hard to tell satire from the real thing. Whether they are or not it's fcuking hilarious :D

Lol one of my Firefox plugins says the site has a bad reputation.

Anyway I'd wager it's satire. Especially with this line: "If you meet someone who you suspect of being cleverer than you, they may be an Atheist."

They'd never admit that Atheists are smarter than they are, regardless of whether or not it's true.

I think you're giving them too much credit :D

Looking at some of it it seems like satire but when you look at 'God's hit list' they have a load of individually named people, some of whom are crossed out with slogans like:

Aaron Russo (God won – died of cancer!)

    I wouldn't call that satire

    looking at this:
    http://bubbleheads.blogspot.com/2006/04/how-to-spot-satire.html

Maybe it is. That's an awful lot of effort to put in, fair play to whoever's doing it, assuming it is satire

If you had any doubt as to its satirical nature then those doubts must be vanquished with the addition of "Linux Users" to the sin list.

I don't know about that now, these people are, for want of a better term, bat sh!t crazy. As someone said on a thread on the snopes forum:

"Its an indication of how loony and detached from reality that the Republican Party has become that people can't tell if the site is for real or not."

It's not that different to the Bill O'Reilly show or the blatant lies on fox the whole time (Jon Stewart points them all out to me :))

No. God hates Linux because of the 'threat posed to corporate copyright'.

    I love the poll question:
What is Barack HUSSEIN Obama's hidden agenda?

Introducing Negro-Fascism and killing white Americans (43%)
    Converting America to communism (23%)
Killing as many Pre-Borns as possible and supporting homosexuals (20%)
Giving America to the terrorists (14%)

I don't know if its satire, but it is funny. This from the quotes page.

“Taking Viagra is against the will of God. If Jesus wants you to have an errection, He will give you one.”

It's a good thing they don't know about his real agenda: converting them to islam

I find it boundlessly amusing that some kooks are so crazy we have to stop and wonder is a site like that satire or not.

  • Registered Users Posts: 17,371 ✭✭✭✭Zillah

    It has to be satire.

    It just has to be.

    Germans?! Poets?

I can at least fathom most of the rest, they hate other religions because they're blasphemers, college professors because they're liberal pinkos etc.

Germans cos they're Nazis...? But seriously, what possible complaint have they against poets?

I also find it amusing that Pedophiles are only eighth on the list.

It is satire. In the terms and conditions, under heading 4 (user submissions) it says this:
    4. You understand that by using the Web Site, including its Forums, comment pages and chats, you may be exposed to Content that is offensive, indecent or objectionable. If you feel offended by the content or parts of the content you have to leave. Str is strictly satirical, nothing on Str shall be taken seriously. If you are unable to comprehend this concept you are forbidden to view any website content. Under no circumstances will we be liable in any way for any Content, including, but not limited to, for any errors or omissions in any Content, or for any loss or damage of any kind incurred as a result of the use of any Content posted, emailed or otherwise transmitted via the Web Site, including its Forums.

Still, was convinced by it myself... almost.

    Aw. That's disappointing :(

Yep. Though having watched all of Louis Theroux's weird weekends it's extremely probable that there are people who hold exactly the same sentiments.

But this time it's for reals.

What about conservapedia, who apparently set up their own version of wikipedia because they thought it had a left wing bias, because the truth tends to

They compile the "evidence" that Obama is a muslim and they call Darwin a racist

Ah Yes, conservapedia. They always remind me of the Adam Savage quote: "I Reject Your Reality And Substitute My Own" :)

I'm using Linux right now
I also am a non-smoker, and I'm not very fond of it really, so that could make me part of the anti-smoking lobby. Oh noes...
