A Decent Mascara that Won't Break the Bank?

Hey girls, just wondering if anyone knows of a decent mascara that doesn't clump, or create spidery lashes?

I am in need of a new one, having been a firm fan of the classic pink and green Maybeline one for years now (forget the name). I liked that one but whilst it's fine for daywear I want something with a bit more impact, volume really, for going out etc. Also one that won't break the bank, recessionary times and all that..

I got Maybelline Colossal Volume Express about a week ago. Its brilliant! Loads of volume. I was using a MAC one before this but the Colossal is way better. Its about €9 or €10 in Boots. :)

+1, I'm just after putting it on now. Finally a false lash mascara that does what it's meant to!

    Hiya,

The best mascara around is YSL, it comes in a gold tube, its brilliant, it creates so much volume, It makes so much difference, you should def try it out, it costs out 20 quid but well worth it!!!!

False lash effect is amazing! I love it! Or the 'sexy curves' one is good too!

L'Oreal Telescopic for great length, Bourjouis Clubbing for high-impact volume & length (I'd save this for going out, it's brill but quite dramatic) :)

Steer clear of Benefit Bad Gal Lashes, it's sh1te.. clumpy and dries up after a couple of weeks use.. I love Two Face Lash Injection.. can't recommend it enought.. Great for lenght and volume... 19.50 in Debenhams or House of Fraser...

Loreal Lash Architect. Love it, been using it for years.

I use Benefit Bad Gal Lash which I find absolutely brilliant, although the brush is massive so don't be afraid of it, it does work!

I must give that Max Factor one a try, I actually really like their stuff (and a lot of it is made in Ireland too so it's good to buy Irish!). My friend is a make up artist and she thought my make up looked lovely one night, she was so shocked when I told her I was using Max Factor Colour Adapt. Just goes to show you don't have to spend a fortune!!

    +1.
Started using it a few months ago and really don't know what I did before it, I don't find anything else anywhere near as good.

I use this too. I got three of them when they were on sale in Boots when they first came out, think they were 7.50. On my last one now so might try something else for a change but I was quite happy with it.

Max Factor Masterpiece all the way for me. Great volume without being over the top. Tube seems to last forever as well.

What's your upper limit? I think Hypnose by Lancome is just the business, so sexy and you can keep building as much as you like without it being horrible looking. It is around the 23 euro mark though :/

I use YSL faux cils even for work, like hypnose too but think it wears off too quickly.

It's being mentioned a few times already, but Max Factor False Lash Effect is just unbelievable! I have never been so impressed with a mascara tbh.

Really? I love that mascara! It's probably my favourite, actually. I've recommended it to loads of people and they've all had good things to say.

If you find your mascara is drying up, a trick I use is to put it in a basin of warm water - the heat of the water softens the make-up!

I love Bourjois Volume Glamour, I have blonde eyelashes and it makes them nice and black plus its good for creating volume as its name suggests!

Need a new mascara..while I'v been using Benefit Bad Gal Lashes for years I think it's time for a change. So hard to choose from the ones mentioned above!!! Do they all work well on dark long eyelashes?

I have that as well, it works for me! Lovely stuff altogether though I think it would be an upper-range mascara, price-wise.

    Have you tried Avon?

Rimmel sexy curves is really cheap and works amazing..

I just give the lashes a wiggle at the bottom and stretch to the tip it adds loads of volume and lenghtens..

plus a good tip is to line your upper eye lid with a pencil and it adds more depth to your mascara.

I love the Bourjois one with the black & White ends to it. Sorry don't know the full name. But it doesn't make your lashes clumpy.
i use it for the day or night. Its about 12 euro though but there is loads in it .

Althuogh i think your only meant to keep mascara for 3 months tops? not sure if its completley true but i've heard that before.

  • Apparently you aren't meant to keep it more than 3 months. I usually keep mine at least 5 or 6 - I don't wear make-up every day so it takes a while to get through a tube!

Has anyone tried the waterproof Rimmel Sexy curves in the green tube?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,345 ✭✭✭SarcasticFairy

I got Maybelline's Lash Stiletto recently and I really like it! It doesn't do a whoolllle lot for volume though, but it lengthens like you wouldn't believe! :)

I used to be a Maybelline Great Lash mascara girl too but a few days ago I bought, mentioned a million times here already, Max Factor's False Lash Effect mascara and I LOVE IT! It was 14 euro in Boots, on special offer. It's really great, nice and black, not clumpy at all. Definitely recommend it.
