Are you descended from an Irish King?

Got me thinking. We once had a King some time ago, so we must have unrecognised royalty amongst us!?
I know myself that I'm related to Theobald Wolfe Tone who was a leader in the revolution against the British tyranny, my grandad is Tom Woulfe who was a big Gaa head and got rid of the Ban in Croke park. I'm not very familiar with what he did unfortunatly.

Here's a link regarding being a descendant of an Irish King and perhaps you can post up who you are related to?

Naaa... I'm a MacAodhagain (judges/lawyers) on one side and a Brunnock on the other (probably Welsh name). I doubt we've ever had much royal blood in our veins.

I think Brunnock is Scottish to be honest.

We had a LOT of kings, king being the title for the chieftain.
And yes descendant of the O'Connor and Dónall Cam Ó Súilleabháin Béirre.

    Really? My logic was :

Brunnock is the anglicised version of Breathnach

Breathnach is the Irish word for Welsh

The family names of 'Brunnock' and 'Welsh' both share the same coat of arms.

Well I'm a republican (in the egalitarian sense, not in the Irish or American sense...I'm very much anti-republican in those ways) so royal blood is pretty meaningless to me....but I doubt I have any anyway. The closest I got to royalty was my great-great grandfather on my mother's mother's father's side, who was childhood friends in boarding school in Germany with the then future King of Norway.

I do think you can be a republican and still acknowledge the ties and allegiances of family and clan.

Good logic. I'm pretty sure it's Scottish but saying that clans in the UK would have travelled to every corner of Britain and settled down and the name could have developed over the years in a different place?

Yep actually, well a clan chieftain anyway. One of my closer rellies outside the immediate family is descended from among the flight of the earls lads who ended up in France. I am a direct descendant of the brother who stayed. The last of my particular male line too so I better attend to ridin and reproducin.:D

AFAIR the last high king of ireland is or was a priest and an O'Connor.

PS I also have that niall of the nine hostages gene.

Many worry about Artificial Intelligence. I worry far more about Organic Idiocy.

One of my cousins was involved in the study of that(and other) genes. Mouth swab and away it went.

I am part O Connor, apparently descended from Queen Maeve. Also have some Spanish royalty blue blood on the other side of the tree. That may be family delusions of grandeur though. :pac:

My first family bearing by surname can be traced directly to Strongbow's right-hand man who married Strongbow's daughter. That family were gifted the county of Kilkenny for the man's role in the conquest of Ireland.

My mother's maiden name is 'Houlihan' which is about as Irish as you can get though I don't know the history on that side (and yes, she does have sister named Kathleen).
