Just want an opinion or two please.
Am assuming my laptop battery has just died.

As of last night at 3AM my laptop won't turn on. Its an 18 month old Toshiba L40. Never had any problems with it. However on Wednesday the power lead didn't seem to be charging it correctly,I had to jiggle the connection to get a charge. I thought one of the kids may have twisted the lead or someting like that.

It was plugged in last night, was playing a game. Fell asleep with baby on couch at 12ish. Woke up at 3am, went to switch it off but it was already off. However I noticed that there were no lights showing for sleep mode or charging as per usual. 3 ours idle wouldn't normally drain its battery. It didn't switch on when i tried. usually even with minimum battery it switches on then off.

Have tried my IBM power lead but not sure if that even works with the Toshiba.

Will try to get in to get it looked at tomorrow or Monday.,

Have you tried removing the battery and powering it up on the mains? If that doesn't work my hues is that it's one of 2 things. The power lead, or the power connector on the laptop.

Don't feel too confident of opening it up myself.
DO you mean power it from the mains with the battery removed? If so how?

If it was just out of power wouldn't it at least try to power up?

Am looking for the receipt/paperwork. I think it was a 12 months warranty.

Just take out the battery and plug it in as you normally would. See if it turns on.

Popped battery out. Plugged laptop in, no response to trying to power on. Might try to get another Toshiba power cable to test that.
