PS3 Hdmi port just stopped working

I have a 1st generation PS3 and have had it for about 3 years. Just today my tv wouldn't recognise the hdmi signal, I tried it with the original AV scart and it works fine, however, obviously the quality isn't as good. I've been on to Sony and done a soft touch reset, which hasn't worked, I've also tried the console on another t.v(hdmi) and with another hdmi lead but with no luck.

Typically Sony have advised that because my warranty is up I'll have to return the console and pay €160 for a refurbished one. Now, here's the real kicker when I bought it originally it cost me nearly €600 and the prices literally dropped 10 days after....so basically another €160 isn't an option!

I've looked into whether or not there is a local repair agent(dublin) who might be able to fix it, and while i accept it won't be an official sony agent I'm afraid that if I give it to someone who ends up not being able to fix it, that then sony may not touch it as it's been tampered with?

I really need some help here, can anyone recommend a reasonably priced experienced repair guy (in and around Dublin city area preferably) or am i doomed to either taking a risk or forking out another €160.....I'll even consider someone talking me through the repair myself at this stage!!

    Cheers in advance guys....

Do a search on repair. Haven't used them, but I've seen Console Repairs Ireland suggested billions of times on here.
