Diesel Cards

I have had a diesel card for three years now and the price of diesel with the diesel card has always been a few cents cheaper than that at the pumps. At the moment the price I am paying is 1.05. The fuel company tells me that I am on an 11 cent rebate which means I am 11 cents cheaper than the standard rate. I can however buy my diesel locally for 1 euro to 1.03 at best and higher.
I have spoken to several people on this subject and it is believed that the fuel card companies have lost a lot of money with companies going bust and are trying to make their money back. Many people seem to think that they are on a good rate and they do not know their actual rate on any given day.

Has anyone else found that these card companies are more expensive than the pumps?

Statoil used to operate that you would get the displayed pump price rather than the discounted fuel card rate if that worked out cheaper, but they removed that before the Topaz rebranding.

A lot of the time it's more expensive to use the fuel card - but it's a hell of a lot easier than paying and reclaiming on expenses and that's probably how they get away with it.

My card hasn't been cheaper since Topaz took over either... however the company gets its VAT back this way and wouldn't if we claimed expenses so they're going nowhere.
